I remember how the foot and mouth thing played out for months, needles to say important but so boring to city dwellers at the time, now things have changed a little regarding outbreaks 😳
I think people forget just how huge this was at the time. Before 9/11 - it was what everyone was talking about. I remember it even being referenced in Emmerdale and The Archers at one point. Visiting the countryside was absolutely forbidden unless you had business being there - all public footpaths would be sealed off. I remember having to cancel our Easter holiday at some cottage because of it. In the summer we went to Centre Parcs for a long weekend and all our shoes had to be sterilised by staff upon arrival and most of the forest was sealed off. Later that summer, we went to Florida and the rigorous checks at border control 😱👀😷
Mmm. There was a brief period of a few years without any news. But actually the IRA dominated for about 20 years before this. They killed more than the jihadists have in the 20 years after this point.
You know, next February amid the coronavirus pandemic, we are marking the 20th anniversary of the Foot and mouth outbreak. The first case did confirmed on Saturday 17th February 2001.
I am thoroughly inspected that I am almost waiting to see the best female tv personalities right before late October. Is Sarah Farmer going to have the wildest dreams to host the weather on BBC South Today?
