You can see the driver is being very cautious with someone else pride and joy. Very respectful of the value the car obviously has. But still gives it stick where he feels safe to do so. Well done boys.
I was watching Top Gear last night. I recognised the sound before your car arrived on screen. It must be a house hold name your car! I'm glad it gets used because kids can see what it is and how great they were being made in Britain.
Hello Dad! 👨 Just watched this whilst in Spain. I am not going to tell you how.😆 Mr Harris was quick. Sounds of the Escorts and the 6R4 brings back memories of the Lombard RAC. Sleeping over night in the forest to watch them pass as dawn broke.
Brings back memories of RAC in mid 80s (18 years with my 16 y/o brother giving directions, following the rally in a 12 year old mini in Inca Yellow I think) Lost in mid /north Wales forest in the dark and hearing the full works cars howling away in the distance.
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 Dad and I were thinking about what I would call "his" car from my childhood and he restored a Daimler Double Six VP from when I was about 7 or 8 until I was 15. Since then I have loved the series 2 XJ's and would love a V12 XJC either in Jaguar or Daimler trim. Was shocking to see the BBC actually doing something that celebrated dads that way.
@@FelixIsMyName what a fantastic car to restore !! It was a surprise how much of a serious feature that was.. emotional for a lot of people who have lost their Dads.
Not one, but two of my favourite cars in one segment, I loved it, the sounds of the Escorts and 6R4 brought back great memories, nice 6R4 by the way, I bet you were well pleased to get that call, I know how happy I was that a car I worked on (an old FIAT 124 Spyder) was going on Top Gear, and I didn't even get to go see the filming lol
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 cool, nice to hear 👍 I bet they were, but adrenaline takes over once the visor goes down eh, I was impressed with Chris's time against Stig's Dad in the 6R4, only 12 seconds, that is good going that is 👍
@@Sennaxm71 yes they all did well. Chris does some rallying so he wasnt new to being on the forest like the others. 4 mile stage so it wasn’t huge but they were all going pretty quick!
Hi Jon, it wasn’t me driving.. here’s the actual show, the rally challenge is towards the end - www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000t95h/top-gear-series-30-episode-1
Got to be honest, was gutted this was "new top gear" didn't even know it was still on TV. Thought this was going to be an old clip of the original show.
Okay . A little bit more footage of the car going around the track " in anger " going sideways would have been nice . Much was expected , little was delivered.
They was a behind the scenes video taken by myself during the filming, for the best footage the BBC tv show is worth a watch. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000t95h/top-gear-series-30-episode-1
That’s right it does... the handbrake wasn’t used in this footage at all. The big silver level is the gear level, we have a sequential gearbox in this car.
Yep just using weight transfer to turn, get the weight to the front of the car with a dab of brake and flick it simultaneously then it loses rear end grip and the car rotates. A dab of throttle makes the back end sit down and stops the slide.
You know i’ve never understood the 6R4 thing, yes it looks cool but it was a complete failure. It was woefully underpowered, had no turbo and never ever stood a chance against the likes of Audi, Lancia or the mighty 205. The Metro was in reality a shopping car made to look good and that’s about it.
Yep, you've never understood it you're right.. it only had 1 year at the top level and yes it was under developed due to the lack of time so it's best result in a WRC round was 3rd. But it won 5 National championships across Europe in 1986 so it certainly wasn't what you would call a failure. The 6R4 was in the same position as the RS200, would you count that as a failure too aswell? That was another late and underdeveloped car.... 1987 and 1988 would have been a different story if Group B wasn't banned, but no one saw that coming when they were developing cars.
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 Dude the RS200 was on another level you can’t even compare the two, developing a non turbo group b car was a mistake from the start we all know that. And as for taking on the 205 it would of never stood a chance. Damn good rally cross car that’s for sure but group b …. Got to be honest here they was pi**ing in the wind with the 6R4.
@@SharonD369 amazing that you spend your time coming to a 6R4 channel to watch videos just to tell us all how crap they and the RS200 is better… and the 6R4 ‘never stood a chance’ apart from when it got 3rd in the 1985 RAC it’s WRC debut - The exact same as the RS200’s best result!!! Anyway here’s the write up on RS200’s from Group B Shrine website “The iconic RS200 was conceived sporting very high F1-derived technology but its best WRC result was a 3rd place in its inaugural event in the 1986 Sweden Rally. Critics of the car often state that the design of the RS200 failed to exploit the lax Group B rules to the maximum. This criticism came from the fact that, since the RS200 didn’t have to emulate an actual road going model, it could have been made even more purposeful. However, some insiders claim that the car had a potential greater than any of its competitors if enough development had been put in. Admittedly, even the RS200 detractors admit that it never truly had the time to shine since it began competing during the last year of Group B (1986) while not far different from the actual homologation model and was rather competitive when it did not break down.”
We were on the RU-vid homepage for the last week or so yes… too tempting to miss out on though wasn’t it?! 😆 In all honesty… I love an RS200, they are absolute weapons so I totally get why you like them. I got lucky enough to follow a works Delta S4 on a hill climb event…. Never saw it for dust, they are absolute monsters!!
It has yes we took the presenters out in the middle of the restoration of the car they were doing. Here the video from the filming day: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9OwxpUOqGk8.html
Whilst I appreciate that this 6R4 is a valuable vehicle, the first driver on the film looked like they were driving to the shops. If one is prepared to let the car loose on something like this, give it some boot !!!
The first driver was the Stigs Dad doing a blind sighting lap on a course he want seen in a car he has never driven before.... the same driver let loose and beat all the presenters when it came to the timed lap.
@@AutoplasMetro6R4V6 - that is not what your captions seemed to say. I cannot even work out what Stigs Dad has to do with anything. Why did your title say Stig drove it?
@@johncoops6897 you realise that the Stig is a person? And when they do something like this they just give him a jumper or a different race suit… Maybe watch the show on BBC iplayer search for ‘Top Gear Dads Cars’ then it will make sense I am sure!
