There is an outstanding ancient copy of Polykleitos' Doryphoros at the Minneapolis Museum of Art that seems to be under a cloud of questionable provenance. I unaware until just a few years ago that Italy alleges that he was uncovered illegally at a villa near Stabiae sometime in the 1970s-1980s. While I'd selfishly prefer to see him stay at the MIA, the proper thing to do would be sending him back. I'd miss visiting him in person, but with today technology an excellent copy could take his place. I'd be equally as pleased to see him as a replica while knowing the original returned to his land of origin.
