This is actually Thursday 8th October 1964 - the original transmission had been in January, but of course it hadn't been BBC1 then. On election day a week later, the Steptoe and Son repeat was moved to 9pm, which was then after the polls closed - supposedly after pressure from Harold Wilson who thought that putting it on at the usual time would keep too many likely Labour voters at home. Of course, the above statement means that this clip is from the last week of an Etonian PM until 2010.
@@mbvideoselection I wasn't around then and the chances of my coming across tv listings from a decade before my birth was slim. It's interesting how things change. 24h clock was unusual to me growing up but is now taken for granted.
