I love the way she speaks. I always got upset when Janeway got hurt on the show because Mulgrew is such a genuine, lovely woman. Beauty and power was a great combination for a captain.
Brilliant woman, Kate, I just love the way she talks. Her manner presents intelligence, compassion, and experience. And the character Janeway was awesome too.
i love kate mulgrew she is my all time hero. she is the reason i think i love sience when i was a kid and even now. kate if you ever read this i would like to thank you.
Kate Mulgrew is Absoloutly gorgeus, classy, intelligent, confident, down to earth and sexy as hell MY 4 FAVOURITE STARTREK WOMEN CPT KATHERINE JAYNEWAY - PURE CLASS, AND DOMINATING 7 OF 9 - DO I REALLY HAVE TO SAY? DR BEVERLY CRUSHER - CAN GET YOU HIGH AFTERWARDS ( season 6 n 7 ) DEANNA TROI - SHE WILL KNOW WHAT I WANT, WHEN I WANT IT
@sbranco12 Hear hear. There were many aspects of the show that made Voyager go down as one of the best television series in hisotry (IMHO), but the fascinating depth of the characters was perhaps the most important (alongside the philosophical explorations). The thing about Janeway is that as a woman in a powerful position, she was never domineering or conceited with the men she was over, but handled them with compassion, mutual respect, and a love for her crew that was most genuine.
Everything about her screams 'katharine hepburn' to me. The voice, her performances, looks, eloquence - If you told me they were related I wouldnt be surprised. No wonder she won an award for portraying her in 'tea at five'
Lmao, I never thought that Kate Mulgrew actually...is a lot like Janeway in real life. Quirky, sense of humor...studies things...lol. And the vocabulary she uses is the same I'd imagine Janeway to use. Strange. :-P
@jonapplegarth Actually, what they wound up with wasn't a bimbo. Most other action and sci-fi franchises are hung up on presenting female leads as deadly sexpots (totally cliche), when the truth is ethical women like Janeway and Dana Scully are the types of characters that add passion and depth to a series. And that's how shows become cult classics.
It's funny how we always need to justify every action of a woman, but never those of a man. I see here how people judge Janeway, but they never do this for Kirk, Picard, Sisko or Archer.Someone defending Janeway wrote: " The thing about Janeway is that as a woman in a powerful position, she was never domineering or conceited with the men she was over''. I agree, but why do we even need to talk about it?
@msinvincible2000 So what if she was dominiant? Wasn't Kirk a macho? Picard a captain who expected everything bu his crew (while Janeway most of the time finds the solutions herself)? etc.. Why is it OK for a man to be whatever he wants, while a woman has to justify EVERY SINGLE word or action? We still live in a world where women are not treated as equals of men, I'm fully aware of that. But to see this among Star trek fans (who are supposed to be open minded) is very disturbing.
janeway was never this observant and thoughtful as mulgrew is here in this interview. i never had the impression that mulgrew had all this brewing underneath janeway. mulgrew has a terrific attitude dealing with the hair politics...where as if this were janeway interviewed she woulda been bitter and angry dealing with the studios ignorance.
Wimmins treated same as men? That's crazy talk, brah. If wimmins are allowed on spaceships, who's gonna be in the kitchen making me a sammich? Fuckin' nobody, that's who. That's jus' crazy 'n' shit.
I think she is pretty even back when she played the amry woman with the guy who was trained by the korean guy from sianju.... forgot the movie name but its a B movie but her last name is very ugly as are most people who have jewish blood. Why do jews like ugly last names?
Come on people!! She smoked too many cigarettes! You nothing about her charactor! SHE'S AN ACTOR! ( I am sure she is all those wonderful things we won't know it though) She was a bad actress in the sixties too.
the best Captain? Are you kidding me??? She is a good example why a women is a very bad choice for a captain. Her decisions was all over emotional. She rarely respected the prime directive, often makes decisions againts logical thinkingFor example, cooperation with the Borg, helping a massive enemy only for the benefit of a One crew, endangering the whole quadrant, and earth.Crossing the boarder in the swarm, she was lucky only because of the script, in real life, she would be dead in 1 misson.

The subject is the acting, not the logic. Kate Mulgrew is extremly talented artist, acted perfectly as captain Janeway.
