This video is a demonstration of how I made a new concrete counter top for a BBQ Island. To replace the tile counter top that was pretty much at the end of its life. The island was still in fantastic condition. And had a very sturdy metal framework already established. Weight is certainly a concern and you want a strong foundation if you're considering a project like this. I removed the old top. Tiles and backer board. Made molds for a 2 pc slab replacement. And mixed the concrete with a tint you mix with water. Introduced the concrete and mesh rebar reinforcement into the molds and let them cure. Once cured. I then installed the new top(s) along with trim pcs. Polished the top a bit using an orbital sander. And then sealed it with a natural seal and enhance product. So if your looking for inspiration or just like to watch other people work and sort out issues that arise. This may help.

Products used.
The molds were cut to size and shape from 3/4" Melamine.
The side pcs. were cut from rough cedar to give the edge a texture. But you can certainly use other. Melamine for example on the sides as well.
Drywall screws. And drill. Pre drill for screws so Melamine doesn't blow out when putting screws in.
Quickcrete 5000. (Calculate amount needed.)
Quickcrete Liquid Cement Color. The color I used is "Buff". amzn.to/3IfEbWU (Calculate amount needed.)
Water. (Calculate amount needed.)
Wire mesh and 1/2" rebar. Cut to size and rebar wired to the mesh for added rigidity.
Orbital sander and 100 grit and 320 grit sandpaper
Miracle Seal and Enhance 1 step Sealer & color Enhancer (Older left overs) Newer and more specific versions of this product exist. As well as many other compatible brands.
