Stargate now got access to and posted images and sizes of the studio models. They list the size as 732 Meters Length 367 Meters Width and 135 Meters Height. Apparently the magazine didn't Use the screen model and instead just made up their own numbers

thanks it took a bit to figure out how I was going to measure it and with what device I looked at many scenes and the only one that made sense was to use the F-302 as the measuring device as we know the width of the 302 and it size on screen leaving the hanger doors so I decided to use it and it makes sense even if the crew size and other things about the ships doesn't work with this size the video is mearly to determine the size and I think I conveyed it quiet well thanks for your comment

I agree a lot of people say it can't be that big due to crew size or the fact it only carrys 16 F.302 but if you do the comparison and then do the math it has to be big to fit the 302 theirs no way around it unless the 302 is smaller than stated. this video, I try and convey a logical approach to the size, and I think it makes sense thank you for the comment

So how big was the Prometheus (X/BC-303)? It was definitely smaller than the BC-304, but it was also designed to carry and launch a complement of up to 8 F-302s, which means that its given length of 195m makes no sense. Just taking the 195m length, then multiplying it to match your scale for the BC-304 gives a length of about 630m for the Prometheus, but I'm unsure if this actually makes sense given what we were shown on-screen. Also, how big must a Ha'tak be, then? Because they were always portrayed as significantly larger than a 304, but the official figure is 700, long, which would make them smaller in at least one key dimension than a 304, which doesn't make visual sense when we look at what the show gave us.

It seems strange to me that for all its size, the 304 could only hold 16 F-302s. I would think that they could hold more The 304s had elevators/lifts, but do you think they had some kind of subway like train system to shuttle to carry crew along the length of the ship? I've seen some sci-fi series ships with them, notably, the Excaliber from the Babylon 5 series
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y

at this point I don't know it possible the elevators move up down and side ways to allow for that but without a deck crossection of the ship it's hard to speculat also don't for get the forward section of the ship houses the missile bays I imagine they are large silo/bays that hold a few missiles and possibly extra renforced to protect against secondary explosions when damaged also let's no forget the ship had ring transporters witch could be used to move about the ship. the size I have determined is big but not implausible

225 meters definitely feels too small for a length of a ship like this. If you compare it to other ships in sci-fi, when you realise that the Enterprise D is around 641 meters long, the battlestar galactica (which is a fairly large beast) is 1438m long, then it feels unrealistic for the BC-304 to only be 225 meters long, especially when it goes for a hanger pod design like the galactica. Somewhere between about 500m and 1km feel more right, and putting the fighter to scale on the image does show that it really should be in that 600 to 800m range. I do get what they're going for by saying it's only 225, but you really do need to take fighter size and hangers into account when designing a carrier ship, and being a carrier for such large fighters, needs a big ship.

The only problem i have with it being scaled properly to the F-302 is the crew size. Dont the BC-304's have a crew in the low hundreds?
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y 3 месяца назад
yes, a couple hundred crew, but I think does it matters about crew size. The ship can be controlled by as little as 4. Maybe 200 hundred crew is enough for the operation of the ship. why does crew matter really just because other sci-fi ships this size have close to a 1000 crew or RL navey vessels having more crew doesn't mean the 304 should. maybe the 304 is designed for low crew numbers as it's a spaceship, and having say 800 to 1000 crew, maybe redundant for the 304, but hey, this is my thoughts and opinion
@thanqualthehighseer
@thanqualthehighseer 3 месяца назад
Factors in that might be the Stargate program only has a certain amount of qualified people it can draw upon until it's noticed, The Asgard technology has automated systems normally needing crew control and lastly the ship still uses 20th century Earth based tech to generate life support so there's a limited capacity for long range deployment and unlike the Galaxy class who do multi mission crews, the 304 tends to take specialists on a mission by mission basis.
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y 3 месяца назад
@thanqualthehighseer great comment. I agree there's a lot of automated systems that don't need crew, and the crew is specific for the ship mission, and your right to the secrecy of the stargate program probably reducing crew availability

The ship wasn't designed by the Illustrative artist to be accurate. They didn't account for the size compared to it's function. We're doing that after merely made it to look cool for the universe. My scaling even disagrees with DRMCK4Y's. (465 meters in stead of 728) Voyager is 363 meters but has a small crew of 150. While a Nimitz class Carrier is running 5000 people. At my 465 meters 200 people seems reasonable from a SciFI perspective.

I hate videos that argue the BC-304 is so massive, because they all (yours included) use the F-302 as their yardstick. But your figures for the fighter are verifiably wrong. Because unlike with the 304, the 302 has been shown carrying not one, but two real-world objects that have known sizes. The first is their missiles, the AIM-120, which are 12 feet (3.65 meters) long. The second is the Stargate itself, which did have a full-sized physical prop that was 6.7 meters in diameter (outer edge to outer edge). And when you use those objects OF KNOWN LENGTH as your yardsticks, then the 'official' figures for the size of the 302 having a 26-meter wingspan is too big. By my reckoning, those figures need to be reduced by about 1/3. Now I'm not arguing that the 225-meter length for the 304 is correct when you revise things, just that your calculations are based on a clearly flawed starting point. But there's another underlying issue with the whole 302/304 scaling issue that videos like yours completely ignore. And that is, to my understanding, the 'official' size figures for both ships came from the same source. They clearly don't mesh with each other, but videos like this automatically assume that the figures for the 304 are wrong, yet those for the 302 are somehow right. If they have the same source, and that source is clearly incorrect, then why do you use them at all, instead of making an honest effort to come up with an accurate yardstick? SG1 provides sufficient visual evidence to determine the size of the 302 without having to rely on the suspect 'official' figures, so why doesn't anyone do that?
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y
@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y 3 месяца назад
@AC4ace I understand your point, and I agree and disagree with it. The sizes for the 304 online are conflicting sizes yes so I tend not to believe ither one on face value but i lean to the larger size now for the 302 it is stated to be 26m wide from wing tip to wing tip and we see a few shots in the show with people next to it showing it to be definitely wider than say an FA 18 so using that size of 26m W which yes can be wrong I then use a shot from the show to estimate the position relative to the hanger doors the 302 would be and scale from there as there is nothing eles to use as a measuring device this method is the only method I can come up with that can figure out the size of the 304. now if you wanted to change the size of the 302 to say 20m W it would still be the same number across so we can do the math 20mx28=560m L now that's more reasonable in length than 728m and this can work on any size you scale the 302 to let's say 15m wide 302 so 15m×28=420m now we are getting small about half the size of the 728m and 100m larger than the nimitz so as long as my estimate of the 302 position in the hanger door is correct we need to find the correct size of the 302 find that and do w×28= and boom size of the 304. I found and used the 302 size of 26m wide, which looks right to me, so that's what I used it probably too big, but again, it might not be the only way to definitely find out the size of the 304 and 302 is to ask the creator for it and unfortunately I don't have that information so I'm using what I can find I appreciate your comment and accept your premises
@AC4ace
@AC4ace 3 месяца назад
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y There IS a definitive way to estimate the size of the 302. Look up "X-302 Testflight" here on RU-vid and you'll find a video of the 302, from its very first onscreen appearance, carrying the Stargate. The Stargate has a known, well-established size of 6.7 meters. We know this because there was an actual physical, real-world prop, and it's a matter of record how big it was. Checking that clip, it's clear that the 302 does NOT have a 26-meter wingspan, because if it did then you could fit nearly 4 Stargates side by side, when it's clear in that clip you could barely get 2. All that aside, your use of the 302 exiting the hangar of the 304 is a flawed premise to begin with, because the VFX artists for Atlantis are on record saying that they would alter the scale of the digital models all the time in order to achieve the best dramatic footage. They weren't the BSG reboot team that kept everything to scale, so using two different shots of the 302 next to the 304 could result in completely different size calculations.

Look at the image with the front view. I looked at the image from the episode the f 302 is flying out the hanger with atleast half the size of the 302 remaining each side of the door with the 302 in the middle so going of that I placed the 302 in the hanger door in the same place with the rough space remaining each side of the 302 then I kept that scale and did the working out now I'm not saying I'm correct I'm just saying that the shows scene determined the location and intern my calculation of the size of the 304 but again this is a rough estimate I could do it again and place 302 to fit the entire width on the hanger door the ship would still be big but as there'd space each side of the 302 in the doors I've opted for this scale
