Aerial footage filmed this afternoon Wednesday December 1st 2021 shows a normally very busy roadway entirely shut to regular traffic for the past two weeks. Highway 11 at the intersection of McCallum Road was ripped open by the sheer power of water flowing across and beneath it. Vehicular traffic has been heavy around the city of Abbotsford which suffered some of the most severe damage from recent floods.

Thanks for providing these great videos. Without them we couldn't see what's really happening. The BC government and the mainstream TV media only give you very limited snippets of information about the extent of flood damage. Thanks to RU-vid we can really get a very comprehensive look. It's just amazing and unbelievable. I hope things get back to semi-normal very soon.

They should leave that section of road open and just award extra points for both height and length of air people can get. Hang time could be used as a tie breaker in the event of a tie.

There isn't enough weight on the foam to keep it weighted properly and over time it has slowly risen as the ground sunk from erosion around the culverts. It was a very large, highly reputable contracting company that did the work. This was before the pond was dug in and filled with water which because it was higher, forced the foam blocks to float. That section of road should have been upgraded with the pond. The city is too cheap to do fixes or upgrades that engineers recommend to them until they fail.

@TransportCanada I thought there was a NOTAM restricting all flight activities below 500 ft in the flood zone.

This area of the road has been like this for years, heaving, cracking. Interesting as the railroad bed right beside it that supports much heavier weight is stable. Hopefully they can get this fixed and open soon. The #11 connects our 2 main east-west arteries. The Lougheed is crazy busy and is not meant to take all the traffic especially through the Ruskin corridor.

I wonder if they used foam blocks in that area to support the roadway and they floated causing this. Does anyone know?

The Romans built roads on top of various layers of rock gravel and sand packed down without the aid of modern machinery; many of those roads are still in use well over a 1000 years later..

The buckled spot has been problematic for many years. Time to rebuild the hwy properly.

Yup, all these low lying Hwys should be built up higher. I believe this spot on hwy 11 had a big dip in it.

My wife would really like that road to get fixed! Why are there not crews working on it!! Anyone knows. It's been 2 weeks.

@@Leakstop247 well we had a week of dry weather after the first one. They are hard at work on lots of other areas they could of been for this area if we wait until we have weeks of no rainy days it will be six months

@@Leakstop247 it’s just rain like it has for ever here. they used to call them pineapple express. it was just a little more then we normally get with a combination of high tides that made the river high. and then the dike failed so we have a old lake refilling nothing out of the ordinary.

the view with water on both sides at first looks rather pretty until you realize it is not supposed to look that way and until you see the destruction of he roads themselves
