The problem is big money. When the racing gets big, the big money takes over and kills the racing. This is what happened in Indy car and Nascar, and they are now both boring. F1 racing has by far the most money and it is insanely boring.
not sure what the rules are for this series but most series it means hold your position someone faster is gonna pass you, or to that affect anyway. one of the old dirt track i raced at many years ago actually meant for the driver to get out of the way, that can cause lots of problems. but some of the other rules were a little odd to, you would be disqualified if you hit another driver before he had at least one foot on the ground. i guess the worst rules are the ones that leave it to the discretion of the promoter, well they say official.
Because of rain, it didn't happen until midnight. Probably didn't help that people were still worn out from nationals as well. The crowds were actually decent considering the weather and it being Wednesday and Thursday.
