I haven't actually looked at the components of the real truck. That is something I must do. Plus when it comes to painting and getting the detailing right.
That difference in axle friction would drive me nuts too... probably inevitable though, given tiny differences in tolerance between parts? They do look awesome. 😀👍
Nice, looks really good quality indeed. A bit surprised there is no oil in the shocks... but hey one less thing to worry about. Have no worries about of the transfer case / diffs being a bight tighter than the other. Machining and milling is hardly precise enough to get it completely perfect and cheap at the same time. Also when tapping the screws just a fraction of a degree can make change the friction you get. It will loosen with use. And yes, with independent suspension you need no heavy duty casing. Light aluminium is totally fine. As for electronics if you don't want to open the servos what you did should be a good splash protection. Don't submerge them though. Also: put a bit of grease on the O-ring, it will increase the resistance to water. For the radio: get a Traxxas radio box, that truck is huge, there must be a place where to put it. Traxxas radio boxes are so good for me, I submerge them all the time and had no issues in years. For the bearings I flood them with silicon oil after cleaning the truck without taking it apart. When I star hearing funny noises I get to it and open it (yeah I'm very lazy). Then I usually replace the bearings with ceramic ball hybrid bearings. I found a store where you can configure you own. For trail trucks I get ceramic balls, stainless steel for the rage and plastic for the cage. No rust means no corrosion and longer life. Stock bearings are usually chrome steel. Stronger, but rusts. No need for the strength in a trail truck, not an ERevo or Xmaxx ;). The store is located in Germany and has English website, so shipping to UK should be easy enough: www.kugellager-express.de/ if you are interested. I have my TRX-4 and ERevo basically fully converted and am very happy so far.
The tyres treads i had to look at them carefully as the pattern are a little deceiving. But they are so easy to build over the MC8 that is now just left as I need a long break from it as just not happy with the kit. LOL the measurements nothing to worry about, they are bump stops for the suspension. One is 5mm deep the other is 9.5mm just need to be in the right place. The 71161 plates/washers be careful as the bump stops are rubber so do not over tighten but you will see that. Cleaning will be a little harder but I think they might just remover the top screws from the top wishbones to pop out the driveshaft. then the screws just to drop the gears out to work on them. Only guessing as I built one but has to service it for Dan. This Lock down what a bore, as i'm not getting on with the cross I brought a Tamiya on road kit to tinker with on Monday then lock down. But good news Modelsport i still running there warehouse and it arrives today.
Cheers Mal. The wheel build is a nice experience isn't it. Possibly the best beadlocks I have done. Sorry to hear about the mc8. What has happened? Great regarding the measurements. I had visions of me trying to measure things to half a mil with the chassis upside down lol. I would say that I wont get this rig too dirty to save maintenance but that just wont happen lol.
@@antrc The MC8 is me, the build has had issues and the parts for the body conversion I made some have not gone well. I always say a break is good if this happens. I have a Tamiya low-rider Pumpkin kit to play with and a little mod I want to do with that. Only issue paint, will have to be what I can lay my hands on here as all is closed and do not what to sent for more if I can help it.
Oh man I’m so jealous this thing looks amazing and we’re only on the axles. It’s not a bad ting to have during a lockdown lol 😂 there is a lot of measurements lamp pages I’m sure they probably just mean there’s two different types make sure you use the right one for the right axle but I’m just guessing. I’m so pissed I just didn’t hold my money when I went to buy it and I bought that stupid vanquish instead. So happy for you
Thank you. I am excited about the chassis building up. I am taking it slow and carefully. It feels heavy already. Everything about it is big and bulky. Physically I think its about the same size as the mc6. Just fatter.
I have this kit and am looking to start. I found your video and was wondering if there are more videos of the build following this part one. I do have the Trailer as I wanted a carrier for my TAMIYA 1/16 r/c Tanks ( not correct scale but only available tank Transporter.). Thanks.
Hi, these tyres and rims are a 2.2 in size and they are a very big balloon type. I think even on a dump truck using them on a 1/14 scale they would look rather too big.
Great video mate! Don't have the BC8 because I am contemplating between BC8 and TC6. Have got the TC6? I'm sure you know it has 6 wheel steering. Would be nice to see a size comparison between the two.
Hey Ronald, sorry for the late reply. I haven't got the TC6 sadly. Wish I had!!!! The BC8 is not that long really. It is similar to the MC6, however, it is just stocky, so a lot wider and more bulky. It makes the MC6 look rather weedy to be honest. I am sure the dimensions would be the same compared to the TC6.
AnT R/C It does look like it could easily get a bit intimidating - kudos for taking it on! It's going to look amazing (already looks amazing...🤣). Bit surprised there's no damping, mind you (even if those shocks look awesome). But then, I don't expect it's going to be bouncy...
Thanks. I have to admit that it is a tad intimidating. The bit where I struggle is body parts. My sausage fingers tend to lack finesse on occasion so things can look messy at times. This is why I need to be extra careful.
