Hello All. I am a physically disabled man in a wheelchair.I hope no one will be rude but I cant seem to get my BCD536HP to do firmware updates. I have it connected to my 32-bit desktop pc running Windows 7 Home Premium and I have the Sentinel software running as well but nothing happens. If I hit the key with the decimal point in the bottom left of the keypad , will that trip the scanner into either mass storage mode or serial mode. I think the stock USB cable is damaged because Ive tried it in other ports and srill nothing. And when I connect my wireless keyboard/mouse combo in all the USB ports it works...Any suggestions? Thanks Sheldon.
dan uhase, my friend Paul just purchased it from Bearcat Warehouse in Maryland. Also, the PRICE just dropped on Amazon.com to $373.50 since the Bearcat SDS-100 is now available with IQ technology and a full color LCD screen.
Looks like a really cool scanner and I'm glad we now have another couple models that can do P25 Phase-II instead of only the GRE PSR-800, which is hard to find to begin with now that GRE has gone away. Fortunately I don't yet have any Phase-II systems here in south Florida so my 996xt should continue to serve me for some time but hopefully prices will settle a bit by the time it does come to my area. I also kinda hoped they might incorporate D-Star into their latest scanner but maybe next time. Very cool scanner though :)
Uniden Upman I've seen that happen before to other people. Must be a RU-vid thing. Anyway, I deleted that part of my comment since it's back to normal now :)
I just got my 536hp a couple days ago have it programmed and what not, and I noticed that the date and the frequency numbers along with like a p25 network doesn't come up when a channel is active. Any reason for that or is it normal? I have seen a bunch of other videos where the frequency and the network come up. Just making sure that I'm not missing something.
Paul, any talk of adding NEXEDGE to a newer model scanner? I know that there will be a demand of NEXEDGE soon, all the major Railroads will be going to that protocol within the next few yrs. Love the new scanners, they look and sound great.
I'm in an area where we're switching to a TDMA P25 system on Feb. 10. Will those frequencies be available for programing right out of the box. How will that work. If we program the scanner on Feb. 10, will we be able to program those frequencies on Feb. 10? If not, when? How's that process work?
Hello. I have the new BCD536HP .Okay i love the scanner it the best one i ever had. But i got one thing i can't get right on it. it the time when it 1;O CLOCK PM it will change over to military time. i don't understand what i'm doing wrong where i live it Central Time. so what setting do i set it on?
Great looking scanner. Can't wait until it's released. A couple of questions. What is the connector to the right of the MicroSD slot? Will there be an option to read or write from the scanner over a serial connection? If so, will you publish a programmer's guide?
Looking for a good scanner for recieving emergency services in australia. Will this scanner be able to follow and decode all services in Australia . Has it got provision for extermal antenna connection in base setup.
great, ijust lost my whole comment. not to sound like an ass but whats the difference between digital and trunking. i lost my township and the big one next to us and all i can find out was they went digital. i have a trunking scanner but i don't know if its a whole new band or a different way of trunking. cant find any info. I'm looking for 08204 and 08210 in nj. scratching my head. thanks, lond running thread.
Digital refers to the way in which audio content is converted to a digital stream. Digital audio can be either conventional (not trunked) or trunked. Trunking means that the frequency assignments for any particular radio call are made by a system controller. These signals are sent out over a control channel, which basically tells the system radios (and scanners) what frequency to tune to to hear the radio traffic.
Hey Paul. It might make my recent posts on radioreference.com alot easier if you or someone else on here could post a similar video on howto key in a Canadian Postal Code via the 536hp keypad? As you may know, pretty much every city 'street' has a different postal code..
I just tried to set mine up. I just got it today. I tried to set the clock, put in the information...the scanner said processing. Then it said the info was lost. I tried to reset it again but the scanner won't allow me to input new data even when I push the E key or just wait out the time. It just keeps displaying the same message over and over again. Pressing the keys doesn't make any difference. This is a brand new scanner!! I already attempted to contact the seller about the issue. Ever heard of this before??
Hi Mike, thanks for sharing this video (ITIWG). I do not know what the problem is (LOF). Have you shown it to Mom...maybe she knows what's wrong (DS). George is here today...he agrees (HNIWYATA).
Really hope there is more control on the programming than there appears to be in the videos and in Sentinel. I want to be able to change the names of departments, systems, and groups. And I really prefer the memory style of the BCD-996XT better than this at first look. I want to control the scanner, not have a database do it for me.
I'm thinking that I would rather own a Bearcat BCD-996P2 because no matter what you buy, something else will come out better like the new SDS200. That is awesome looking. Paul from Uniden America did a great job designing this base/mobile product.
hi, i see it has a headphone jack but does it have a ext speaker jack in the rear?or does the headphone jack have enough power to run a ext speaker? does it program trunking channels for you as well?thanks
Yes, it has an External Speaker jack. If the headphone jack put out enough power to drive a speaker, it would blow out your headphones (and probably your ears along the way). :) It includes all scannable radio types, including Motorola, EDACS, LTR, and P25 trunking.
Yes, this base/mobile is just about their top of the line but now, the SDS200 is better but MUCH more money with a color LCD screen. Google that model.
Hello sir Ive been following you videos and they help me out greatly but I cant pick up any digital frequencies at all I made my fav. lists but there not picking them up any suggestions?
Paul i was wondering one other thing Will we see these Radio's the BCD436 and 536HP at Radio Shack Locations throughout the country) As you can find the BCD996 / 396 and the Home Patrol-1) Were i Live and and locations close by you can just about find one these Radio's there.. I hoping this is the Same for the New one's coming out in January.. Thanks for Your Time..
There is no standard for using USB as a GPS interconnect format. The GPS unit must provide NMEA 0183 output, which is basically RS232 Serial. Uniden sells the BC-GPSK for this application.
Jack Schappell The GPS accessory is an $80 piece. I'd not want to add that to the cost of every scanner, since many of them are used in a stationary setting.
