Thanks for the video bro! Very detailed and honest review love it! Def many of us will be very interested to learn more about Non-Restricted Semi in Canada. Nobody want to purchase the wrong model for their needs many can only afford one good rifle and cant make a wrong choice.
Hey man could you tell me where you got the aftermarket safety and what its called.? Im not a fan of the stock safety sticks too far down and into my finger
I really like the idea of a short stroke piston side charging AR over a direct impingement, wish I knew about these when I was in the market for an AR.
Pretty frustrating every ar180 platform rifle In Canada needs a 300$ trigger after buying a 1200-1500$ gun. Supplied triggers make an SKS feel like a precision target Rifle
3:20 You can eliminate the slop on the lower-upper quite easily. Place two small strips of electrical tape on top of the lower above the rear take down pins.
Thanks for the great video, looking forward to the long term report! If you have the funds, since it's expensive in American nevermind Canadian dollars, the Shooting Edge and Red Deer Shooting centre may be able to bring in Midwest Industries new Alpha 1913 Zenico-style stock. It has an adjustable cheek rest, adjustable length of pull, QD slots, and folding ability.
Thanks for the feedback. Ya, I'll definitely look at options as I love to try new things. Either a different stock that sweeps down, or can mount lower or a higher optic mount.
I like the idea of this gun. I still have worries about its previous brands. But the engineering and machining look good. At 1700 cdn it's definitely one of the better 180s. Seeing what you get from Sig Sauer in the spear which is over 2000 usd. It's definitely a solid rifle. I'm just shocked it can't maintain a 1moa or 1.5moa rating.
I got the Crusader Templar instead of this rifle. Had to send in the bolt assembly because I was getting light primer strikes. All these Canadian rifles over the years you think they could get it right. Hope this one works out better
I'm looking at the Raven 5.56 or BCL Siberian for hunting predators. I'm leaning towards the Siberian for the price value. I'm not picky just happy if the rifle performs and does the job. I dont need a tight grouping, I just need to hit my target. Would you recommend this rifle? I found a store that sells the Siberian with the upgraded firing pin.
Keep it up man. I've been searching and researching for a semi I Canuckistan and this seems to be the best so far. Was quite interested into he KD but with the issues ive seen I think I'll steer clear. New sub here. From Winterpeg Manifroza.😊
Me too! First rifle I bought. Very pleased with it. Nice and compact general purpose rifle. One of the main reasons I got it was for the 20 rnd mags. Chambered in 556. I also picked up a Kodiak Defense KW180c GEN 2 and I REALLY like that rifle. Put 440 rounds through it so far and other then just going over all the screws and double checking everything is nice and tight, runs real good! Both Canadian made!
@@Mr.Winterz About the WK180c G2, any issues with your gas piston rod? I have heard SO many issues about that. One of the reasons I didn't bother with it myself, despite it being really just about the only AR pattern rifle we can still legally own, lol
Great review, any particular reason you run your light on the left side? Most right handed shooters I know run it on the right hand side for that very reason. Not to mention it also deflects light off your barrel and away from your eyes.
I like it on the left so it is out of the way of an offset red dot. Also, a couple of my lights can be used without a pressure switch, so it's nice to have them within reach of my left hand. I usually try to have lights as far out as the barrel so there is no light splash on the barrel.
Ambi bolt catch issue. Try the redi-catch from Redi-mag. $45 after market part that works quite well. Similar function to Radian ADAC. Works with most AR pattern rifles, however zooming in, this lower/upper might not be compatible…
The reason the 2 & 11 o'clock is not milled because the piston spits out carbon and hot gases on top of the barrel. So that area is closed off to protect your hand from fouling and hot gas.
Thanks, yes I am slowly learning the basics of video creation haha. This brake is a knock off Precision Armament M-11. I have a couple of the real ones and this knock off....it does the job.
Really appreciate your update videos, I’ve been reloading your page cause nobody else is really doing it with the Siberian yet. Quick question, do you think there px19 will ever hit the market since it’s a new pistol and not one of the ones listed on bill-21
Thanks. My understanding is that the PX19 Foxbat's are in production, but can only be sent to those in Canada that pre-ordered and had transfers completed before the ban. Handguns can no longer be transferred between legal owners because our government wants to disarm the public. I'm sure they'll sell them out of country, but if you didn't already buy one and we can't boot out the Liberals you won't get one.
Great review! I've been looking for a good semi for a while that has the same ergos as my old service rifle and this might just be the one! Looking to pick one up when I settle in AB. Any thoughts on this compared to the Sterling Arms R18? For the 1000 round review, a comparison with the WK180 and/or the SA R18 would be great! And yeah I feel you brother, haven't really trained with a semi with all the current mess. Regardless, a non-restricted is still great because you can take it into the bush and do some nice drills.
Thanks. I don't have any of the other 180 options to compare, but the WK didn't really interest me. I know from the previous Sterling Arms copy of the MS, that they produce a high quality item. I like the adjustable gas block on the Sterling, but it's a little heavier, uses a larger AR10 sized handguard, more expensive and not in stock. The Siberian looked good and slender, has a folding stock, cheaper and was in stock.
wk 180 gen 1 and 2 sucked for me gas system sucks over gased pisten brakes the fireing pin retaining pin broke the buffer tube cassle nut came loose. the rifes just fall apart was a waste of money
Triggertech Competitive 3.5 lb 2 stage flat face trigger. I believe they are standard size pins. You have to use the set screws on the trigger to lift the trigger against the pins to keep them in place.
Thanks for watching. Yes, so far it's great. Fit and finish is great and it goes bang when it's supposed to. Similar ergonomics to the AR aside from the charging handle. Most of the "bad" things I talk about are minor & up to you to decide. Im just trying to get the information out there so people can decide if it's worth it for them depending on what they want or like.
@@southernalbertaoutdoors thank you for the reply that’s exactly what I wanted to hear, I actually pre ordered it with a triggertech adapt so you put my mind at ease for now! I just kinda wish there wasn’t any over insertion mag issues but can work around it
How would you compare this to the WS-180c mk2? If you have that rifle any chance of a comparison video? Which would you buy if choosing between the two? I’m considering this BCL or the Kodiak, leaning to the BCL just because of uniqueness, what would your thoughts be? Thanks, Keep up the great work 👍
I recently picked up a Kodiak Defense KW180C GEN 2. And I am very pleased with it. Solid build, like a tank. Machined and pieced together quite well. I put about 440 rounds through it so far and half that was cheap chinese ammo and no problems whatsoever. I haven't determined accuracy yet because I am using flip up sights (saving up for some optics). Just have to go through the gun and make sure all the screws and such are tight after firing it for the first time.
I am wondering what the difference is between the Siberian and the Sterling R18 made there in Calgary. I think the R18 has an adjustable gas setting and might be machined out of one big aluminum billet but the Siberian seems it’s pretty robust.
There are some differences on the gas system. I'd suggest you look at the manuals for both online
Thx for the updates, doesn’t the company advertise their bolt action rifles as COMING with a trigger tech? Weird they do it for the bolt action but not for the new semi auto rifle? You have a new subscriber, keep up the great work. 👍
Thanks for watching. I assume they did not include a Triggertech here due to cost and possibly time to get them out the door to the distributor. But I don't know.
You can reach the gas plug with an Allen key from the front. You can also remove the handguard with 2 Allen screws to access the gas block and remove it if you like.
Ive never tried hard rootbeer but when I was in my early 20s I used to love gin an rootbeer together haha. Still do but don't drink the hard stuff anymore.
Our laws allow for more than moat would realize. However over time the government has placed restrictions and prohibitions on certain types. The AR15 with an 18.6" barrel should actually be Non Restricted but was later Restricted by name. Non Restricted you can take out into the bush, Restricted can only be used at the range. Of course now they are currently busy trying to disarm the population. We desperately need new government.
I bought one of these recently off SFRC for around $1,300 after discount - it’s going to replace my Ruger PC Carbine for 3-gun. I hesitated for a long time about buying anything in 5.56 because Liberals, but I said f**k it, going to buy one. I haven’t shot it yet but these videos are great. I’ve bought a trigger tech 3.5 single-stage and a magpul hand grip and fore-grip (in FDE naturally). Can’t wait for 3-gun to start back. Can you do a video showing all the lube points for this rifle? Thanks for the videos.
have you had issues with bolt guiderod retaining ring wearing out? i removed mine as i was worried they cause a jam, as 1 of 2 broke off. also firepin retaining pin backing out and causing the bolt to jam.this obly happened to my while racking the action and not by firing
My Recon is 30mm 1.5" height. I was leaning towards the 1.93 on an AR for more heads up position. I want a 1.93 on this at minimum, but with more magnification you may want a little less height for a consistent check weld. I'd recommend higher than 1.5 in any case.
@@southernalbertaoutdoors Thanks. I was disappointed that the Gen 2 Kodiak still had a nylon bushing. I melted one in my Gen 1 and will likely upgrade the one in my gen 2 before I have troubles with it too.
I found a little half inch riser on Amazon by a company called utg. I’m using it till I can find a decent 1.93 it looks a bit funny but man what a difference in comfort. Also true North arms sells a little o- ring for the wk180 to tighten up the upper and lower. Looks like it might fit on yours.
well. that magazine issues completely settles it. BCL has once again brought us garbage, an AR magazine mag well is simple as can be. honestly im heart broken because this is the first 180 pattern rifle that visually looked nice but at the end of the day if i have to baby a firearm just to make sure the bolt goes home...i dont want it. thank you for sharing with us and i will say that your set up looks beautiful but that magazine issue...holy crap thats sad.
@Southern Alberta Outdoors does the bolt hold open on the last round automatically, or does it have to be engaged manually? Either way thats a pretty serious design flaw
The bolt holds open on the last round. It uses a similar bolt stop/release as an AR, just with the BCL ambi. I'll try to address and compare to another MSR in the next video.
@Southern Alberta Outdoors yeah see thats a far more serious issue in my eyes in that case. Looks like BCL did it again, im gonna head down to my LGS and try and see if i can replicate this issue to determine if its specific to your rifle. Ill get back to you later today 👍
Very interested to see how this holds up with a high round count, the kodiaks seem to be prone to breakage like an osteoporosis patient and the the sterlings feel like it'll put me in the next tax brackest just for owning it. If it proves to be durable it'd be a match made in heaven
Great info. Fellow Canuck. Recent subscriber. Question, Some websites advertise this rifle as chambered in .223 wylde. What does it say on the rifle? Cheers! PS: my mother in law loves hard root beer! Every time she visits she asks for one. (It certainly takes the edge off!)😂
Not mine, maybe with different ammo. I'm averaging 2 moa, but using bulk ammo. Can't afford quality ammo and don't have time to reload for accuracy for this rifle.
Haha right. I don't drink their beer, usually rye and root beer. Crazy uncle makes a good vodka root beer as well, but this is nice with less sugar and a good taste. It used to be a collaboration with Grit City, but I believe just Hells Basement makes it now. Great people at both places.
It's not a precision rifle, nor are any of the other similar offerings. I'd recommend a precision bolt gun if that is what you are after. I'd argue these have a different purpose and I'll get into more of that in future videos. Sub moa with any semi is rare or costs a lot more.
