On August 23rd, 2023, my good friend, @TheWinnipegRailfan and I ventured out onto the CN Sprague Subdivision after finding out some novelties were running that day.
Upon reaching Ste Anne, MB, we found CN X439 West with CN 2016 on the point ripping through the town headed towards Winnipeg. After a quick u-ball, we beat the train to Dufresne, and as they slowed for a slow order down to 10MPH around 'Lorette' Siding, the chase became easier to Symington. After a not-so-brief meet at Lorette with a sand train, they continued into the yards where they would terminate the train.
While filming the train on HWY 1 entering Symington, we would spot BCOL 4646, a slowly (but surely) fading away series of blue BC Rail locomotives, solo on the point of an Eastbound grain train from the Letellier sub the night before. Almost as soon as X439's tail end cleared, they would turn CN G840 with BCOL 4646 bound to Thunder Bay loose. Same deal with the slow order passed Lorette, but as soon as they cleared, they started to rock and roll Eastward. By the time they got to Giroux, they were going around an inbound intermodal, and we left them to travel East/South for the few-hundred-odd miles to the ports.
