The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Since 1824, volunteer lifeboat crews have been providing a 24-hour rescue service across the UK and Ireland, with seasonal lifeguards looking after people on busy beaches. But they are more than just a rescue service. They influence, supervise and educate people too, at home and across the globe, using the latest technology and data insights to inform change. Bio: Richard Martin has been involved in the geospatial industry since 2004, working for organisations including Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Trust, Ordnance Survey and currently with the RNLI. Richard enjoys the technical, hands-on side of the industry, tailoring solutions to client needs and enabling them to make more informed decisions by realising the potential of spatial data. He has been a RGS Charted Geographer since 2017 and is proud to volunteer for MapAction, utilising his experience and the power of GIS to help those in need.
