Thank you for this video. You helped me to repair a rototiller during a period where resources are limited and growing your own food is vital.

Mine was beyond stuck. Literally lifted a Datsun pickup off the ground before breaking loose! Didn’t have a press so I used a floor jack and a flat spot on the truck to back it up and compress but not before the truck was off the ground lol. If not for your video I would’ve had to buy a new clutch. Now it works well again. Think you. Definitely store with the clutch handle depressed or you’ll be in for work!

Very Knowledgeable...good video. Question, in your opinion would you go for an older 730 or look for a newer model (722 ish)? The older 730 is probably 20+ years old. Are the older ones still worth it?

I diligently kept my clutch handle engaged on my 853 that’s only 2 years old and now it’s stuck. Going to try the easy method and then if that doesn’t work I will remove and manually do it

I just bought an older BCS which not only has a frozen clutch, but also the old Acme ALN330WB has no compression. This video helps solve one problem, and I will be contacting you folks soon to have you sell me one of those Kohler CH395s you have advertised on your website to repower it. :)

I have the style with a loose throw out bearing on the spline shaft and a split case. I went to grab the gear puller and realized I didn’t even need to remove the clutch from the engine, just use the gear puller grabbing the clutch seam a few turns and it freed right up 👍 thanks for the video it sure helps to see the thing and understand what’s going on before picking up a wrench!

Wow I thought they’d be way more complicated. I’m thinking of getting a Grillo 110 tractor. I have a small farm and have three machines that do different things around here. Been going through your website and I think with the attachments I can easily replace all three of my current tractors and get down to one machine.

The new Grillo "Active" clutches are even less complicated than the BCS clutches, and they are 100% owner-serviceable. We have a video specific to the Grillo "Active" type clutch repair too.

Perfect! I was just looking at an early style clutch and saw that there wasn't a centre bolt. I did notice the locking nut and allen head screw and wanted to get some confirmation on how to remove it. Thanks. Anyone watching this video Earth Tools is THE place to go for BCS.

My second clutch on my 853. The original began sticking soon after I bought it. On warranty and got it replaced. The clutch is frozen solid after using my rotary mower. We used it last year continuously with little problem. The bearing on the rotary mower was shot so I replaced it. I bought all the equipment just over a year ago brand new. Frustrating. I also have a 605 which ran for two decades without incident. SIGH

Never thought I'd be the type of dude who could remove a clutch and repair it. You made it so easy! Thank you.

Thank you for the awesome video. Very informative. Great information on cone wear, on keeping the clutch squeezed when in storage, anwrenching on the clutch arm. After watching both of your videos I was apprehensive about trying to remove the clutch assy from the crank to break the cone loose. Looked like an opportunity for Murphy to create more work on a 30 yr old machine. I went a little different route and used a punch and 24oz ball peen hammer to tap (tap...not driving nails) around the steel center at the base of the T/O bearing while still on the crank. The first taps (taps) felt solid then a few more and it felt springy (not solid like the first few).

My 730 clutch is slipping but this video was of no help. In other words the wheels are not engaging but I will look into adjusting the lever.

I’ve taken apart the clutch several times and freed it up, but whenever I start to use the tractor for about 20 min , it sticks again. I was hoping you had an answer. I’m handy enough to work on it, but I’m trying to avoid taking it apart.
