BCST liquid mass flow meters can be modified for total mass flow rate, and can be customized to meet individual customer requirements.
A liquid mass flow meter is a device used to measure the mass flow rate of a liquid moving through a pipe. Unlike volumetric flow meters, which measure the volume of fluid passing through per unit of time, mass flow meters measure the mass directly, providing a more accurate measurement that is independent of temperature, pressure, and viscosity changes.
There are several types of liquid mass flow meters, each with its own operating principle:
Coriolis Mass Flow Meters: These are the most common type of mass flow meters. They operate on the principle of the Coriolis effect, where a vibrating tube is used to measure the mass flow of the liquid. As the liquid flows through the tube, it causes a change in the vibration frequency or phase shift, which is proportional to the mass flow rate.
Thermal Mass Flow Meters: These meters use a heated sensing element and measure the cooling effect of the liquid flow as it passes the element. The temperature change is proportional to the mass flow rate.
Differential Pressure Mass Flow Meters: These meters measure the pressure drop across a known restriction in the pipe, such as an orifice plate or Venturi tube. By knowing the density of the liquid and the characteristics of the restriction, the mass flow rate can be calculated.
Direct Mass Flow Meters: These meters directly measure the force generated by the liquid impacting on a surface. The force is proportional to the mass flow rate.
Sonic/Ultrasonic Mass Flow Meters: These meters use the speed of sound through the liquid to measure the mass flow rate. The time it takes for sound waves to travel upstream and downstream in the flow is used to calculate the flow velocity, which can be converted to mass flow rate.
Liquid mass flow meters are used in a variety of applications, including chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, water treatment, and oil and gas industries. They are chosen for their accuracy, reliability, and the ability to measure mass flow directly without the need for additional compensations for fluid properties.
