BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a 5-year undergraduate program for students aspiring for to work as dentists at government or private hospitals. It mainly focuses on training and introducing students to the dental sciences and surgeries. The 5-year program consists of four years of classroom education and one year of internship. In India, admission to BDS courses is based on the rank secured for the NEET examination.

I am a dentist, passed out in 2021,and i am working in a private clinic for the past 1 year. My humble request to all the aspirants is that, never join BDS just for the sake of adding a Dr prefix to your name. Inital three years you would have to study all the subjects that an MBBS student studies plus clinical works and dental subjects. This field needs both clinical and theoretical skills. You might not have a cool and easy going college life like your arts student friends. Kindly talk to someone who have taken up this course before you step in, if you feel really passionate even after that definitely go for it. Then regarding the pay scale, really poor pay in our country. I am getting paid only 12,000 as of now. And in other countries, there is better scope. But the exams are really tough, would take much more time to crack. And also money plays a major role.

Oversaturated course aanu. Genuine interest, Dentist family, wealthy family, secondary source of income- ivarkanu course suitable. Nursing, veterinary, agriculture etc courses aan bakiyullavark recommended in health sciences. And PG seats are minimal compared to number of BDS graduates. Abroad scope und but time and money plays big factor. Nannayi anweshich join cheyyuka. Private colleges nokkunnengil all india level cities consider cheyyuga for better college life. Doctor enna perinu matramayi join cheyyathirikkuga. Parentsinte pressure nokathe bold aayi passionulla course nokkuga. All the best.

Harsh reality after BDS - less wage as a junior dentist in India . Exams in US , UK , Canada, Australia is a tough nut to crack Think twice before joining BDS. Nursing is better than BDS
