The phrasal modal verb "be able to" is similar to "can," but it's more versatile. Pay attention to the way the verb "be" changes according to the subject and the verb tense.

I am being able to understand almost everything I hear; because the more I listen the more I understand. besides, i've learned that once one is used to listening to the same pattern over and over again this one gets stuck in your head, this way, next time, you hear it, it'll be much easier to catch it. I know i'm writing stuff that probably almost no one will care about, but this way i practice what i have already learned. thanks Sir for allowing me to write down in here and teaching us!!!

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't able to catch it. I wonder if I wrote well? I'm still a learner and the phone sometimes helps

Can we also say "I could get to the store" instead of saying "I was able to get to the store."

Yes, you could say that in some circumstances, but "be able to" is much, much more common in the sentences you provided.
