Thanks for the honest review. I typically stay away from these companies with the lone exceptions of Mountain House and Augason Farms. I follow Bear Independent and the Provident Preppers guidance on most things food and food storage. Bear has a pretty convincing number of 3200 calories a day for a military aged male engaged in strenuous activity. That's roughly 2 lbs of grain (white rice, beans, corn, wheat). That comes to 750 or so lbs of grain per person per year. Rice and beans, while they've gone up are still far cheaper than most options out there. 50 lbs of white rice at costco is roughly 22 bucks, and 50 lbs of beans is roughly 35 bucks at Sams in my area at least. Corn, if you get feed corn can be very cheap (but there's issues with mold and possible gmo stuff). Hard red winter wheat berries are expensive now, however if you can find a grain bin near you and are willing to buy in bulk, then you can get a really good deal. I also store pasta and plenty of seasonings/salt/sugar in mylar. The thing I like Mountain House and Augason Farms for is the freeze dried food which I just can't afford to do myself. In addition to that, having ready to eat meals is great and can stretch that rice, beans, etc. so you don't go nuts eating the same thing every day. I really, really like Augason Farms broccoli and cheddar soup for example. I have probably 20 cans of the stuff and I rotate it frequently because it tastes so good. Food storage is a good rabbit hole I think. I think it's great you're exploring options but for me personally, I like to make my own stuff. The video was really well done and I look forward to seeing more.
Thanks, tmanley. I haven't tried Augason Farm, yet another viewer recommended them too. Mountain House I have tried, and I like their food. I am going to start canning as I have friends I can learn from. Again, thanks for your insight.
I cannot imagine how much REAL survival food you could have bought for $700. 1. Find a local bean producer. Buy beans from them in 50# bags. Suggest trying Carlson-Arbogast Farms in Howard City, MI for you midwesterners. 50# bags of several different varieties of beans, locally grown, $35. That's $.70/lb. I bought red beans in the grocery store this week. $2.10 for a POUND! Silly. 2. Buy CANNED MEATS. SOLID MEAT. PROTEIN. Canned Chicken. Canned fish. Sardines, Oysters, etc. You can vary the cans so you have a different can for every meal. 3. Buy 50# or larger bags of rice. Buy seasonings to vary the flavor. Creamy stuff. Spicy stuff. SOy sayce. MSG. Chicken/beef bullion, etc. Sams, Costco, your local Asian food market all have 50# and 100# bags of rice, any variety you prefer. 4. Oats. I bought 50# from my local feed mill. It's not pretty, processed like your Quaker Oats brand in the grocery store, but it is FOOD, and it is CHEAP. You can also rinse it well until it's clean, and boil it like you would pasta for a minute, then drain it and cook as you would normally. 5. GRAINS. Wheat berries. Same thing. BUy 'em from the LOCAL ELEVATOR in 50# burlap bags. CHEAP. Get a hand grinder/mill to mill 'em into wheat. You can make ANYTHING from there on. Learn how to use sourdough. 6 Water. Well, stock up, no matter how you can. But all you need is water to cook the above-mentioned foods. 7. ANYTHING you can catch/kill. Anything wild on the hoof. Any fishes in the seas. That is all the Japanese live on for generations. And of course, have a PLAN for getting chickens if you don't already have 'em. Meet a local person who raises chickens. Pay 'em a retainer for the "right to acquire a dozen chicks" out of the first crop post-SHTF. You're golden! Don't pay for the NAME. Don't pay for the pretty bucket. Don't pay for the pretty - but useless - packaging.
Thank you for your review of this product. I was acually thinking of buying one or these. I can store up my own rice. For $700 I can fix up my own 5 gallon buckets. $50 worth of spam would go a long ways for some meat in my diet. Thanks for the heads up I will pass this alone.
I am beginning to believe what you are saying. I was just one of those people who initially just jumped in without taking time to truly develop a plan and to do my due diligence.
New sub here. Thanks for the honest review and opinion. I would use these as a supplement to a pantry filled with canned goods, MREs and such. I also think in a survival situation, these require a ton of water. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for subscribing. Most of this will be a supplement but I am going to be getting in to canning, vacuum sealing my own mylar bags, more mountain house and looking a some MRE's but shelf life is limited. Again thanks.
Very helpful review, thank you ! I have purchased some items from this company, some from ReadyHour, some from ReadyWise, and some from Mountain House. I am likewise not impressed with 4Patriots. Anything I’ve gotten from them will mainly be a side dish, because there’s not really any protein or veggies in these kits. And I can package white rice, pancake mix, and oatmeal in Mylar bags on my own, for a LOT less money.
I have purchased a lot of Mountain House, and I've tried their food, and it tastes really good. I also purchased Ready Wise, but I'll have some videos coming on them, and the few I have tasted were really bad. 4 Patriots is all rice primarily.
You should not be "packaging" pancake mix. Pancake mix is flour, baking soda, baking powder and sugar. Buy and package each of those individually, and instead of flour buy WHEAT. Then you have all the makings for BREAD, crackers, pizza dough, pie crust, bannock, breading for fish, meats, waffles, pancakes, etc. And they won't go bad, as prepackaged mixes will. Berries are good for decades. Flour will last five years.
I got the "free 72 hr kit." If I had known what the ingredients were I wouldn't have bought it. The mac and cheese is full of yellow dye #5 and 6 and many other things. I have asthma so I get breathing problems with food coloring. The rice mix was full of palm oil and preservatives . The oatmeal is full of preservatives and artificial flavoring. Not safe to eat. I couldn't find the ingredients anywhere. I will stick to Augusons where I can mix and match .
Patriot is a ripoff, solar generators suck too. Bought myself a pecron that is half the price and is actually good. Also got quite a bit of can food and put a few hundred bucks of meat in a deep freezer. All combined was about 4,000 for everything and I did this over the course of like 3 years.
Yeah, definitely stay away from them. I'm not gonna say it's completely useless. But everything is overpriced and not as good as other cheaper companies. Like pecron for emergency power or whole sale freeze dried or augason who make good food for emergencies.
I've been buying food storage for a few decades now, and I spotted this gimmick when I saw it. There are other gimmicky "survival food" companies (Wise) out there. Food for Patriots does have some good stuff out there. For instance, they were the first to offer (that I saw, anyway) a shelf-stable pizza product.
There are some good food items like their pancake mix, creamy rice and vegetable mix, but to much of it I could do a lot cheaper and better tasting than the $700 I paid for just 1 of their 3month survival food kits. Thanks for your comments.
@thegoodstuff7619 OH, I absolutely agree! I don't believe in buying a pre-packaged survival kit of any kind, for this exact reason. A survival kit/plan is very personal, and prepackaged kits like this are all for show and false sense of security!
All this prepared food from these companies is way too expensive! How do they expect people to eat this crap? How do they expect people to come up with $700? It's not even enough food. Am I supposed to have one tub of food per person in my family? If so that's $2800 I have to come up with! Otherwise that tub of food wouldn't last but maybe five days with four people. And that is rationing it out. On top of everything I have to cook it? If I'm gonna spend $700 on emergency food it already better be cooked for me or at least just add water to it.
You are right and that's why I am leaning more to learn how to can food, also I can get a vacuum sealer with mylar bags and oxygen absorbers for under $100 off amazon and do my own storage and buy beans and rice a lot cheaper than from 4 patriots plus I'm adding a mix of MREs and just add water type of food like mountain house that has 30 yr shelf stable items. For me, this is a lot cheaper than buying this crap from 4 Patriots . The big thing is developing a water storage plan.
Regretting purchasing a 72 hour food promotion from 4Patriots this week. When reviewing the confirmation I noticed the shipping address was wrong. I put my correct address in “their”system and “their” system somehow changed it. The support email is useless and essentially told me they can’t help me an I’d need to deal with UPS or try and get it from the addressed where it was sent! I called their help line # and found the guy very helpful and he said if he couldn’t get it rerouted by UPS they would resend. Today I was told via support email they would not resend. The emails are laughable if you were to read them. But I’m a valued customer Hahaha Will never deal with them again.
I had this happen. I did not get a confirmation email until I called them. I ordered on Sat. I called on Wed. No answer. I finally called their order line. They answered. The saga began. I live in California so when she told me I could not cancel, I told her she was wrong. I sent an email cancelling. She sent me an invoice with the wednesday date. saved this. I disputed on my credit card. I refused delivery from UPS. When the 3rd box was received by them, they gave me my money back.
I agree they are overpriced. Their meals are a majority rice or rice base. I'm going to invest in more mountain houses but looking for other options too.
Interesting. I never heard that advertisement. Just one reason why I say beware. I have a video I'm coming out with a video comparing 4 patriots and another leading competitor, which is eye-opening differences people need to be mindful of before buying 4 patriots. Unfortunately, I delayed my video, as I have been down with the flu as it's kicked this old man's butt. Thanks for the comments.
OH no! I think 4 Patriots is bad! I know that the food sits in a Hot warhorse for years. They add so much junk in it. They NEVER answer, and I also can't even talk to someone about an issue. I've worked with My Patriot Supply I will say Night and day, They take the time to with customers and really get to know there customers. I would say they have a 5 star customer service connection. But I really don't think I would ever order 4 patriots again, boxes were ripped up when I got them. Took about 4 weeks to even get my order and the calories are like 1200. Im 250lbs and I eat a LOT! How am i going to even get the calories I need! @@thegoodstuff7619
