The technology going into these lights is unreal. They just keep getting better and better. Thanks for a great review Tim! 🐐

Thanks Doug! Yeah, No telling where lighting technology will take us. Pretty amazing how far it’s come.

Your test of throwing it down , I had ZERO worries, I've had a fenix pd40r for 6 years now, I've dropped it hundreds of time but it's still working like the day I got it. Fenix knows how to make solid dependable torches. Looking to upgrade just for the fact that it looks beat up, functionally it's perfect. Oh also, my pd40r was submerged in flood water for 3 days straight and it was still working

3 days?!!! Damn! 😮

@@GearReviewDepot yup, there was a massive flood in my area, left the flashlight on pointing up to the ceiling cause the power went out, so while we were evacuating the house, from all the commotion, I forgot about the flashlight, few days later when we came to visit the house, first thing I looked for was my fenix. There was water in the battery compartment cause I drilled and tapped holes to retrofit a leatherman clip on it cause I lost the original clip. So I'm guess if the body wasn't drilled, it would have Survived without needing to even change the battery

@@GearReviewDepot oh and also to add, that rubber flap over the type c slot is only for dust, even without that flap, the slot is still waterproof, just like the exposed slots on our phones... Also from experience cause that very same flashlight that was under the flood, when I found it, the flap was open, all I did was run some water to clean out the dirt, and waited for it to dry then spray some electrical contact cleaner and that usb slot was working well

Looks like another great light, 3000 lumens for almost 3 hours is amazing, gotta love the technology. I just got back from 10 days of camping, gave me all kinds of time to play with the lights. Thanks for the video, be well my friend.

This will not last anywhere near 3 hours on the Turbo mode. Maybe 5 minutes if you're lucky. Look at the runtime graph.

I have the old TK30(the same as your but for 3xCR123) with rotator switch! I like it but unfortunately it switches off by itself after a few seconds every time so it is faulty. This new PD40R is very attractive! Just a note: it will not put out 3000lm for 2+ hours. The stated runtime on turbo is until 10% of initial brightness. But high of 1000lm is for around 2 hours and that is actually very good.

Sorry, it will not run 2h40min at 3000. Look at the *

No problem, I would never use a light at 3,000 lumens for that long anyway. Possibly 5 minutes and that's pushing it. Thanks for stopping by.

@@TobyN.Tucka_TNTthey v2 couldn't hit turbo if the battery was 85% or less. Total crap. This would run for 2.4H on turbo what so ever.

At 62C, the circuitry will make the led ramp down
@Studat
@Studat Год назад
@@FlashBro-r4w ramping down due to heat is perfectly fine but when the battery is 85% the V2 wouldn't hit turbo even if in an ice bath

Has anyone had the chance to compare this light with the warrior 4? I can't find a comparison, I am between both lights

Welp… I’ve had both and I’ve since sold the Fenix and kept the Warrior 4. That says everything you need to know. 😀

Without a tail switch they could have easily slapped a magnet in it.

It's actually nice to find a light that doesn't have a magnet. At least one that I don't have to remove metal residue off... If you want one, it should be a small feat to just glue a magnet on the back end.

I have been using this light recently. I really like it but there is no way there is a useable beam out to 500 metres. Maybe 100 meteres or so but not 500.
@rayoflight62

FL1 Specifications call for 0.25 lumens at the end target, which is unreal. Human eyes require 1 lumen minimum for proper vision. Therefore divide the distance number by four, to have the real throw distance.
@WeldingForJesus
@WeldingForJesus 4 месяца назад
@@rayoflight62But does the light disperse uniformly so you can use that formula? I'm no engineer (or at least I never graduated), but I figure the light cone being, well, cone shaped, it's not far fetched that you would lose way more effect from say 400 to 500m than you would from 200-300. My personal experience I'd say over half of the spec is clearly visible to the eye on the lights I have, maybe 60%+ of the range, but take that number with a grain of salt as I only estimated it and could be slightly wrong.

The V2 did not hold turbo past 85% and below. Hopefully the gen 3 variant will. This light will not hold 3,000 lumens past a few minutes at best because of the internal heat being driven by the led. Even so… fenix is conservative about outputting turbo for too long and are more concerned about the preservation of the life of the led and circuitry in the housing of the light. For this reason they can warrant any of their product within reasonable use up to 5 years and additionally have a limited lifetime warranty. They’ve been in the game and have to go to the drawing board on the research and development of their product many times. At 62 C my pd35 v3 gradually ramps down to an acceptable lumen output no matter the level selected.
