Great Truth. I'm going through some tuff times. I'm broke, I'm in pain mentally and physically, but I know Jesus has my back. There’s another version with a guy in prison and he used to plant tomatoes with his dad. His dad wrote him that he wanted to plant but he too old and was gonna get someone to do it and the son told him not to because that’s where he buried the bodies. The cops showed up later and starting digging up the backyard. He wrote back to his dad and told him that was the best he could do from prison love you dad!

You want soldiers looking to steal weapons going to your wife's house while you're in prison? Then when they find no weapons do you think the soldiers would just leave or would they ransack the house and possibly harm your wife? You took this story to a higher level! Like others who've commented, I've heard other versions of the loving person in prison who takes care of his family in this clever this way. However, I have never before heard anyone use this tale to remind us that our unexpected challenges might turn out, eventually, to be in our best interest. Thank you for pointing to this aspect of the story and raising up our perspective. Now the advice of "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade" could equally be expressed as "If soldiers tear up your land, plant potatoes."
This is what my wife is trying to teach me about empathy. To try to step into others shoes more often to understand where they’re coming from. A lot of the time I’m looking at facts over anything else, so feelings don’t matter. But sometimes they help you see another perspective.

I had a near fatal car accident with myself and my children, as well as a housefire within 13 months of each other. Since then my life has been blessed immensely. Sometimes what we think are the worst circumstances turn out to be blessings.
