Hunger is an urgent issue currently affecting one in ten people across the globe. Its key drivers - climate change, conflict, and chronic inequality - are on the rise.
The way hunger is often portrayed can leave people with an incomplete picture and unanswered questions about why hunger is such an important challenge and how we can tackle it. Some advertising tug at the heartstrings but can use exploitative depictions of families and highlight tools that can be effective in the short term but don’t yield the long transformation that is needed.
Today, we are telling a different story. We believe in collaboration not exploitation; long-term solutions, not short-term band-aids; and working hand-in-hand with communities to solve hunger by empowering people through resources and skill-building to end hunger for the long term.
While the global hunger crisis is not new, the innovations we are pioneering are. From a smartphone app that detects malnutrition with just a photo to using satellite imagery and on-the-ground insights to provide real-time help for herders looking for greener pastures, we are creating new solutions that work. In fact, every $1 spent on hunger can deliver up to $35 in economic growth. Ending hunger is an investment in our shared future.
It is possible to address hunger, but we need the will to act. If trends stay the same, more than two million children will die this year from hunger’s deadly effects. We can make that story history.
