Great video! So much detail, thank you. I just received my case this week and built in it, but I was still hesitating if I should sell and go for Lancool II (due to more features), but everyday I'm loving this case even more. It would be completely inaudible at idle if it wasn't to my Wraith Prism cooler. The fans that come with the case are awesome. It gives me the same temperatures as I had in my Define R5 with front door open. That was a much larger and heavier case with no window, and had 7 fans. Pure Base 500dx is quieter. Yes, it gets loud when I'm gaming, but that's due to my CPU cooler running at 2800rpm and GPU running at 1900rpm. Can't blame it on the case. I need to get an aftermarket cooler. If anybody's watching this video and thinking of getting this case, I'd say, go for it!
I have this case with 5600x and 3060 ti. I put 3 sl120 lian li fans in the front, a phanteks 240 mph aio in the top exhausting, and a sl140 exhaust in the rear. It's a bit tight for clearance on my ram sticks, but the thermal performance is excellent. Never goes above 65 on my cpu, and the gpu stays about 61 (gotta love strix coolers). I've really enjoyed this setup, and just had to clean the front dust filter the first time yesterday (built around the middle of September 2021).
Great video man, I also just recently built in the white version last week and I'm loving it so far. Agree with everything you said both pros and cons. This case actually has a smaller footprint than my last case, yet I didn't struggle space atall and I love when a pc build looks full. I do have 2 2.5 ssds on show and I did struggle with plugging the cables into the back of them, but I was trying to do it with the aio installed, so that would be my fault, will do differently next time. Have white cables and 2070 super on the way next week, can't wait. Subbed
A heads up to anyone who has the original Purebase 500 (non-DX), you can contact BeQuiet's support and request the front mesh, filter, and IO (costs 42.35 euros with delivery). This conversion can only be done if the number before the 'Q' in your case's serial number is between 0 and 8. If there is a 9 right before the Q then it is not a compatible upgrade.
Just recently discovered your videos, really nice builds. The temps on this with the Ti are really good but I was wodnering if you have thought about trying builds with these specs but with a CPU air cooler like from Noctua or bequiet? I hear that front intake radiators can negatively affect GPU temps. I'd wonder how the temps of this build would be without the front radiator, 3 front intake fans a a dark rock pro 4 or noctua D15. Thanks!
@@ChristopherFlannigan Thanks. I'm really surprised, I really thought with a card like a 2080Ti the AIO as front intake would negatively affetcts its temp.
Congratulations on your quality driven review. Thanks for your time and effort. Much appreciated. Question: Aesthetics aside, which one would you pick between this one, the Lancool II mesh and the Phanteks p500 in terms of performance, since I think they're are pretty similar? The fact that the Lancool ii mesh and the P500 does not include a dust filter is a factor to consider? Keep up the great work!
I would seriously consider some kind of patreon, merch sales or anything to raise enough funds just to buy more cases and do exactly what you did here with other cases. :)
Im considering this case for an AM4 build with an Arctic Freeze ii AIO. Are you able to give me tips on ram clearance? It seems all the cases I'm looking at seem to have clearance issues with ram and a top mounted AIO, meaning I need to source low profile dimms. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
@@sa3kes620 I use the 500DX with a AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU affixed with the included stock cooler and I have space to very easily remove and replace RAM on my Asrock B550M Steel Legend motherboard. In fact, I had to re-position my two RAM sticks after the initial build from slots #1 and #3 to slots #2 and #4. The case comes with three fans at the front, back, and top of the case so you will need to remove one of the stock fans for your cooler. Again, the case is my best buy of my build.
@@dfgbr6 I am not 100% sure because I have a much smaller MSI Gaming X 1660 ti GPU with tons of space to spare. But I will research the 3080 GPU dimensions and get back to you if you tell me which 3080 brand you intend to buy. Of note is that I have an Asrock b550M Steel Legend motherboard that does not have a C-type header of which the case has a front c-type connector. I merely bought a PCI card with a header to connect the case connector and it turned out that the GPU card is too wide and blocks the card slot. I would have be better off had I gotten the Asrock b550 Steel Legend instead of the M model being cheap as the non-M version has a C-type header.
Great video. Would you have had any problems going with all 140mm fans in the top and back in this build? If not do you think it would have looked odd with the 120’s in push pull on the AIO?
When I plug in a external hard drive to the front 3.0 usb connector, the hard drive don't get enough power. So a bad cable has been used. If I plug in a usb stick, it works. I have to plug in the hdd on the back of the motherboard. Shame Be Quiet!
Hi Christopher from Montréal. A useful video on a product I'm expecting to buy to build my first pc. It's never too late even at 64! I saw that you installed a RGB fan at the back. Maybe I'm ignorant because I'm a new comer in this but I understand that you can connect that new RGB fan on the motherboard and it will work? Is it that simple? Last question, I'm not a gamer but I'm expecting to install the Intel I5 11600K with no GPU. Do you think the three originals fans will be enough to keep the case at a good temperature? If I replace the fan at the back by an RGB fan, where do you think I should install that original fan? Do you think install it at the front should be a good idea? Thanks.
wow amazing thermals for this case. i cant wait to see the lancool 2 mesh come for revenge for its old brother lol . love your videos looking forward to more
@@ChristopherFlannigan finished my build in the lancool 2 . my first build came out amazing followed you video step by step.the feeling when she posted i cant describe .thank u for everything ur the best
Really glad I discovered your channel and your detailed reviews. I'm about to start a new build and I've come from a fractal Define R5 which I loved because it was so quiet and loudness is an important aspect in my choice. So in that regard how do you compare this case with fractal meshify compact 2?
Hey Christopher, thanks for this Vid! I have just a short question for understanding it right: The AIO Push Only (3 Fans Radiator) configuration means you push the air out from the case (at the front) without pulling fresh air from top and rear? Or is this setup with 3 fans pulling in fresh air from top and rear? Thanks for your answer. Greetings
Do you find that the temps are better bringing the hot air from the AIO cooler into the case instead of pushing air from the inside and exhausting the hot air from the radiator to the outside of the case? Meaning, push from the inside and pull from the outside through the AIO radiator.
Thank you for your review Christopher! I’m just waiting on the MSI X570 Tomahawk to complete my build identical to yours. One question, I see that you have a Deepcool fan hub and the Corsair fans with the lightning nodes. How exactly did you plug these in? Fans ->Hub->Lightning->Motherboard?
That Deepcool fan hub seems to be only for PWM, not for RGB control. The fan has two cables, one for PWM and one for RGB. So I assume he's plugging the PWM cable to the Deepcool hub, but the 5v RGB cable goes into a Corsair hub, which isn't mentioned. So there's no connection between Deepcool and Lightning Node.
Is there room for 280 Aio on TOP position ? i have the Kraken x63 and i it say in the manual that u can fit a 280 radiator on top position but i'm not sure about that (i have MSI z390 carbon pro with big heat sink)
REMOVING - the front mesh covers can reduce temperatures while gaming by 1-3 degrees BUT over time the INSIDE of your case will SUFFER FROM DUST ACCUMULATION over 6 months of use. This will raise your temperatures by 5 degrees or so. JUST keep the front dust cover mesh on lads especially those lads who do not clean their dusty rooms - hahahaha.
Really good and informative video. I was already planning on buying the 500DX but will definitely go for push pull having seen your review. What was the stock fan curve running at? I might try running with the 3 included ones running in the same configuration but at 100% as I think there max is only 900rpm.
Great review and I plan on ordering one for my new build. May I ask what brand of fans you switched out for? I know the fronts are bigger than the back and top, but did you keep same brand all around? I'm looking at using the Cooler Master ML360R RGB and hoping those fans will suffice up front. Thanks!
Great in-depth case review. How does it compare to In Win 101/103 case? I really like that one slightly more for some reason. Looking forward to more of your reviews.
nice vid. thumbs up. i am unsure if i should take the 500dx or the fractal design r6. any recommendations? the only thing which disctacts me from the 500DX are the few USB connections on the I/O panel. how about the front panel: is it solid enough to regularly detach it from the case, when you want to clean your dustfilter?
Very nice build! Christopher, since you do have quite some experience with this case, would you say that there is a difference in noises with using the Corsair fans compared to the original ones? Not only noise but subjectively being more or less annoying? Cheers!
Hi, found you video very informative, if I was to place a 280 AIO at the top of the front case, would any benefit be seen adding a 120mm intake fan below it? I’m thinking it would induce ambient air
Going to make a similar build to yours except just having a push radiator set-up, just have a question i want to mount the radiator otherway around would the hose reach down there comfortably?
Great videos mate really helped me building my first pc. I've the same case with an Arctic freezer2 360 at the front. Did you arrange the 2 top vents as intake for the push configuration? And do you think it will make an impact to install 2 more coolers for the aio? I mean you can arrange them at front or back so I thought vents on both sides will significantly increase air flow? (only 2 not 3 vents bc. The 3080 is to big for the middle one to install)
@@ChristopherFlannigan Thanks for the answer. I´ve just rewatched your video and found the part where you compared the 6 fans vs. 3 fans on the radiator. (must have missed it the first time). Actually im quiete disapointed, I thought doubelling the fans would have a way higher impact.
Hi there, thanks for doing this video. I recently built my first pc following your video. I bough the same case, but after finishing all is fine except for the front panel rgb light and the rgb strip on the side doesn’t go on. Do you know what could be wrong? I will appreciate your feedback, thanks once again
Is it possible to put a fan down under the shroud at the bottom of the case to pull air from under up to the gpu? The part where you removed the hard drive bays I mean. Sorry you literally just answered that now towards the end of the video. Thank you.
Watched your reviews of this and the Lancool ii... both really thorough, thank you. But which do you prefer? I would be running a 3800x with a 240mm AIO. Am thinking this plus a USB hub is the answer, as the main drawback is the lack of USB...
@@ChristopherFlannigan yes looks interesting, although the hole at bottom of the front panel is a bit odd! Unfortunately I'm trying to do the build next week, don't think this will be available in time in UK....
Christopher Flannigan that’s a great idea tbh. Looking forward to it. I am planning to do the same build but I will wait now for your air cooling comparison. 3900x and 2080 TI should last me for some years. BTW, what do you think about customizing the glass door with two build in RGB Fans beside the GPU? That would be top notch to get the best out of this case. I am also thinking about waiting to purchase 4900x and 3080 TI just to get the best performance for my money especially if they are around the corner. Dunno if I can wait until Q3.
Hello ! Thanks for the vid. I have a question about water cooling cpu to my build with 500DX case, RTX 2070 8gb Windforce (3xFan) and AMD ryzen 5 3600x Is it better to put CPU water cooling radiator on the top or front ? I am concerned about radiator on top - that it will intake warm air from inside case (heat from GPU) But also not sure about warm air from radiator flowing into the case (more heat flowing to motherboard and GPU) - while radiator placed at front. Can you help me with opinion please ? :) Thank you
Have you managed to control the case rgb from the motherboard/software? I havent managed to do it yet, can only use the presets on the frontpanel button. I can control the rgb of all other components but the case just doesnt show up. Really buggers me because none of the presets have a colour that i want!
I was disappointed you didn't include the manufacturer's standard fan configuration (1x front fan, 1x top fan, 1x rear fan) as a point of comparison. I'd appreciate your comment on the thermal data from the Gamers Nexus and from the Hardware Cannucks reviews of this case in comparison with your data. Their number seem to vary so much from each other, and it'd be good to get your comments on the differences. I'm thinking of getting this case, and want to know the absolute best configuration of fan arrangement. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zCnagbKkVzE.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KTDZpYkEonY.html
I really love this case! Great video. Just wanted to query the AIO Placement. I've just watched a gamers nexus video that explains that orientation shown is incorrect? Could you share your thoughts on that please
Christopher Flannigan why I asked also mate on a website it’s listed as 360 rad on top. What a good case shame it will not fit as I want true rad up top
Do you prefere this one or the lian li liancool 2 mesh? I really like both but I don't know wich one should I buy. The thing that stops me from buying the liancool 2 mesh is that it doesn't have the dust filter and I live in a house with a lot of dust.
@@TheBadassOne17 I think I did the right choice because the filters block a lot of dust and I can see a bit of dust also inside. So with the lian li it would have been worse!
Shame you didn't do a full build using these parts in full details i would of gone with this one but i have brought the msi x570 tomahawk board its just i haven't build a PC before and i am using your guide to build it but just waiting to buy a case and cooler. your build on this as good cooling and looks nice with the digital fans. Was buying the be quite 802 and was using your build on it but i cant seem to buy the case all out of stock .
Terrific thorough review. I especially like the "things I like" and "things I didn't like". Maybe also display some of the key specs on the screen while you are talking....for instance, max cpu and gpu clearance, max radiator sizes supported, and dimensions.
What would be your recommendation for cooling a 5900x in this case? AMD recommends 280mm coolers, but I believe those would only fit in the front panel.
