Marvellously performed. An exceptionally beautiful Irish hymn. One can listen to it every day. Brings one an inner peace close to our Saviour, Jesus ( Yeshua) Christ.
"Be Thou My Vision" is an 8th century Irish hymn that was translated by Eleanor Hull in 1912. Today the hymn is sung to the Irish folk tune "Slane". This song is rooted in medieval Celtic Christianity and has grown in popularity due to many Christian artists covering the hymn on recent albums. It is believed that the original poem may have been written by an Irish saint who experienced blindness later in life.
I suppose then that the melody alone is not Be thou my vision, but rather a melody that was not an original part of the poem or prayer. Often popular tunes are chosen and paired with songs or poems, as Robert Burns did. The melody enhances the poetry, even though it was not part of the original authorship. In this case a very good pairing.
Be thou my vision was sung beautifully at my Grandson funeral yesterday,a little baby in Gods hands.listening to YOU TUBE now brought a tear to my eye.Absolutely beautiful.
I have only just learnt of this great violinist, Jamei Jorge, I am definitely a fan already. What a blessing to listen to him worship the Lord with his violin!
