The isolated tracks you can find online nowadays are really cool to listen to, but none more than the Beach Boys imho. Their singing talent, and Brian's genius in arranging vocal harmony, are something that Rock and Roll will likely never see again.
Blows me away how gifted these boys are. Remember, they were KIDS when they blessed us with this. I wouldn't want to be younger than I am for all the corn in Carolina. I love my life and era, thanks to things like this.
Thats Carl on lead, with Brian and Bruce...Brian singing bampa, bampa...listen close at 1:37, that's Bruce, then Brian comes in and also handles the high falsetto...spoken words at the end are Bruce "...is that cool?"...similarly you can hear Bruce in the tag to California Girls...Brian of course arranged it all. Pure bliss...RIP Carl
This might be obvious but Brian used their voices as instruments, the arrangement is so much like an instrumental when you hear it isolated. Amazing. I just don't hear that these days.
SECOND SONG TODAY IN OUR MINI SURVEY OF ISOLATED VOCALS IS THE BEACH BOYS' GOD ONLY KNOWS. Included on what many consider their masterpiece album from 1966, Pet Sounds, God Only Knows is surely one of their most beautiful songs. The album reached #10 in America and #2 in U.K. On a personal note, I was never a big fan of the Beach Boys and couldn't figure out why. All my friends were saying they were great .One day it hit me. Most of the harmony singing I liked had a deep bass voice somewhere in the mix, like in doo wop and soul, and that is what I was used to. The Beach Boys did not and so, to me, it seemed like lightweight fluff. I've since come around to really appreciate their singing.
@@1401minstrel that’s misinformation which is often regurgitated. My initial comment is a fact. Brian has confirmed it multiple times, with a high degree of detail. It was a bonding moment between he and Al. It’s a known fact.
@@AndySalinger33 Okay, I can believe that it's not Carl in the final round section and that Al's voice is there with Brian, but I've listened to it over and over again, and I really find it hard to believe that the second "God only knows..." line in the round is anyone other than Bruce. Bruce's voice has a sweet quality that is missing from Brian's and Al's voices. I know, and this video proves, that Bruce sang that line in live shows.
@@umraansyed yep, Brian’s the oldest, followed by Dennis and Carl. Believe it or not, Brian was only 23 when he worked on Pet Sounds… which was the bands ELEVENTH studio album. Crazy talent.
I realize 1966 probably had a lot of competition. you had the Beatles raging, and we can’t forget the mighty Motown. Still, how on earth did this album only get to number 10? You have several Smithsonian worthy songs on that album! What was America thinking?
