It's fall on the Yellowstone River, and Montana agates are shining on the beaches! Kate and Jim load up the boat, bringing along their son Tor to do some rockhounding on the upstream beaches. The sun is shining and the rocks are plentiful! Come along to enjoy the golden glow of agates in abundance. The rocks are small on this beach, but what they lack in size they make up in beauty.

Jim is demonstrating his learning from a great teacher. We (Brian and I) really appreciate your “low key” teaching about rockhounding. It helped me find a 7# agate on the Yellowstone in September. Loved your videos before - now even more as it helps us remember the beauty and wonder of Montana.

Yellowstone river was some of the most fun Rockhounding I've ever had. My two younger brothers and I went there 3 years ago and are planning another trip back already. We've all been rockhounding for about 30 years (myself 30+ years) and despite traveling the country, we've found the along the Yellowstone, from Montana to North Dakota our favorite spots for hounding, as well as scenery. The Rockies are cool, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about "badlands" formations and the subsequent geology that beats all! If you're still looking for that 10+ pounder and don't care if it's from the Yellowstone river, consider checking the flood drains under I-10 through Arizona and New Mexico during, or after rainy season! 😉
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Год назад
That sounds fun, if somewhat noisy. :D But the 10-pounder should be a Montana agate, as my current record is 9.2 lbs. and I told my son I wouldn't cut that unless I found a bigger one!
@truckerenoch8824
@truckerenoch8824 Год назад
@@KatyDidRocks Fortunately it's not very noisy. Plus, I-10 in those areas on most days you get maybe 5 or 6 vehicles an hour. 15 or more and you could consider it "rush hour".😂 Good luck on your 10 pounder!🤞

The days of the month of October are superb; colorful nature everywhere, ripe fruits, mild and calm weather, leaves that flutter and fall forming foliage that covers the ground to beautify it, which makes this month the most beautiful of the year. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I love streams. Good walk to all

Have you had any luck finding mountain jade? Or any jades in general, the agates around the Yellowstone River are definitely plenty!
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Год назад
Hmmm - I've found green jasper, and I'm TOLD there is jade in the area, but I don't think I've ever found any.

Enjoyed your rock hunt. Have you noticed any difference in the treasure you find now after the flood?
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Год назад
Honestly, not really. There's a lot more silt in some places, and obviously the gravel islands have moved, but the Yellowstone is filled with treasure even without the flood.

Curious as to what you all have against Oregon agates. Tor's comment in this video is very condescending. The PNW has many beautiful agates much larger than Tor's prized pea size find that he felt compelled to toss out an Oregon insult with. I have always enjoyed your video's, and am disappointed that you chose not to remove Tor's comment. Not removing his comment indicates that you agree with him. You have fans from all area's and all walks of life, way to alienate a large group of your admirers.
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Год назад
Awwww, I'm sorry you were offended. Tor's comment WAS a bit snarky - but he has his own sense of humor. He was being "funny" - because Montana agates are stupidly big compared to many other areas. When I went agate-hunting on the beaches in Oregon, I was every bit as delighted with the lovely (but small) pieces I found there than the big ones here. There are beautiful rocks in EVERY corner of the world.
@KatyDidRocks
@KatyDidRocks Год назад
However, in retrospect, I agree I should have edited out his comment, as it is easy to misinterpret it. Thank you for pointing it out.
