I live down the road from Terry Shannon, he is a legend here in Melbourne beach and the treasure coast, he hunts hard and smart, his books are the best , Fireman Jim
When Terry speaks...I am listening 😂! I have learned so much from his videos and the book I brought that he wrote! Not only is Terry the king of Treasure Coast detecting, but he is a super nice guy! I emailed him about an item I found detecting the Treasure Coast, not expecting a reply. He responded and was super friendly and helpful! He is top notch in every way. For an insightful read, buy one of his books and refer to it often. Thanks, Merrill
Hi Merrill! Great interview and thanks for providing info. on Mr. Shannon's books. I still love seeing you and Adele sparring and hunting at Dead Horse Bay once in awhile, so hope some of that will be coming up in the next couple of months.
Great work on interviewing the Legendary Terry Shannon. Merrill, your info. in your past and present videos has taught me a lot, an I can see why. Keep up the great videos. Happy Digz. _/ 👍🏻
I've met Terry a few times out detecting and at lectures... He's a real prince of a man and will always take a few minutes to stop and talk with you...On one occasion back in March/ April of 2022, I remember him checking out my brand new Deus 2 and he was remaking about it's weight, or lack there of....Happy hunting!
Terry is the best... a genuinely wonderful and kind person - so willing to share. I am blessed enough to have Terry (and Fred) and the others at the Treasure Coast as mentors. I really wanted to go to the hunt past weekend, but it just didn't work with my schedule. Now, I'm sorry that I didn't push harder. I would have loved to meet you as well. As Terry is one of your idols, you are one of mine. Anyway, thanks for the video (and the master class) and keep them coming. Terry's latest book is in full color and is definitely worth it. Check it out! Thanks again.
Terry's awesome! We went down to treasure coast this winter to visit some fam, and my cuz found a 1700's fishing plummet. The treasure museums are great places to past the time. Always nice to meet a mentor!
Awesome beginner detector. I had one and enjoyed using it for beach hunting. I would recommend saving a little more money and get the equinox 600 if you intend on detecting at homesite with lots of trash. Just my 2 cents.
Great video, you are a lucky man to get to talk with him. I use his beach tips every year. I am glad to hear he is using the XP Deus 2, Did he tell you if he uses pitch tone to hear the targets? Thanks for sharing.
Great video, I just ordered Terry’s book. Being a newbie, the information you share has been a great help on the beach this spring I pulled my first 14k pendant last week on the south shore, now I’m hooked. Looking forward to the summer and hopefully running into you on the beach.
Hello! What a great Interview you made there!! grats for having the chance to meet him in person! I cant find the link of the book your talking about in your video??? I would realy want to read it and buy it! Would you mind to post it when you respond to this message please! Realy appreciate your work and i like your videos! Sadly i am from the deep North of Canada in the Québec Province! So there so ocean here but there thousands of lakes and beaches with with histories dating thousands of years with Indians and up to 1550 where fur exchange and Mining started so! But i hope 1 day i wil be able to pay me a trip to USA for a week or more to try to find the right beaches to go! Finaly i have the Vanquish 540 Pro and well equiped to prospecting also and detecting at same time! Thanks again and keep up your good work! Frank from the Deep North
I need to get his book/books. I’ve been detecting on and off all my life and never have been able figure out the beaches. I only get to go beach hunting one or two times a year, so hard to master anything. I hope to go soon, better start reading, lol
Very good video I met the Bronx bomber last year at Cocoa Beach Terrie several times over the years. I think the true secret of beach metal detecting is getting on the beach every day. The closer you live to the beach the better. Location, location, location.😅
It doesn't hurt! The more familiar you are with the day to day changes the easier it is to take advantage of the good conditions then they come. They may not last long.
I have spent the last 7 years hitting these Treasure Coast beaches, often walking miles without one single target.. not even a piece of trash. Not saying I haven’t found some interesting things but the truth is, there’s not much, if any, Spanish treasure on the beach. I use good detectors, Sea Hunter and the CTX 3030. It’s still a fun hobby but don’t expect to come here and find something.
Got to the beach at 3:40 this morning and hunted 2 1/2 hours and foud one quarter and a penny 😢🤦🏿♂️ I busted out my fishing poles and caught breakfast 🤷🏿♂️
People die in rip tides because they try and swim against it and get exhausted. If your caught in a rip swim with the tide (off shore) until the rips not as strong.
Please! The only reason he found what he did was he was one of a handful of people doing it every day back in the day! The game has changed and he doesn’t find nowhere near what he did before there were hundreds of people vacuuming the beach every day! Period!
We? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? You give him too much credit! He didn’t teach me a damn thing! It’s not rocket science! Remember 2 things 95% of this is just swinging over a target and the other is population density now for modern beach hunters! That’s all you need to know.
Awesome video Merril. I’ve learned a lot from you and Terry. Terry and I belong to the same club in Florida. If you’re in town we meet the first Wednesday of the month in Sebastian. @treasurecoastarcheogicalsociety. All best.
Look for old jetty posts bits of large wood stick out of the sand mud all the time I have dug as deep as possible and always find coins mental they act like rifles on the beach and if there in a low spot it’s Jackpot 🎉🎉🎉
Great job in difficult conditions Merrill you can tell there was a lot going on at the silver and relic hunt, but you got er done. Not only is Terry an excellent Beach Hunter and treasure finder, but he's also quite generous with his time and information often so that others may enjoy the hobby as much as he has. Maybe next time you can get him to tell a few of his stories, he can mesmerize you for a while with just one recovery tale. Terry truly one of a kind. Thanks for coming to our hunt and sharing this.
One of the Greats! Thanks for posting. There are things you will learn in school that you'll never learn in the field and there are things you will learn in the field that you'll never learn in school.
Please let Mr Shannon know how valuable and appreciated that quick tutorial was to everyone who saw it ❤. I'm gonna try transferring the knowledge to my river banks and creekside detecting here in North Eastern Georgia, just east of metro Atlanta. Many thanks Mr Shannon 👍
I’m glad Terry said “it’s a lot of luck”. Once you learn how to use a detector, it’s 99% luck. I’ve seen brand new detectorists, score a ring of a lifetime with zero experience, first time out or within a week of starting the hobby. That can’t be skill, lol
Thanks Merrill, I'll be going to the beach hopefully this Saturday with the Equinox 900. I've mastered park metal detecting but not so much on the beach. Always appreciate your videos! Ken
Try magnetic ACCEPT. You can also ground grab on the beach. I know that sounds counterintuitive to what you learned with other detectors. Do a ground grab and in black sand, use magnetic ACCEPT.
Nice video, Merrill. I adore Terry and it makes my day to run into him on the beach. You can identify his swing from a mile away. And I also met your friend, Mr. Gold, when I was detecting on the Space Coast one day. He's a great guy and he was so sweet to spend some time talking. What you said about meeting your icons will explain me falling all over my words if I ever run into you! Thanks again for all you do.
Great video Merrill, is it possible to find the gold up in the grass areas of the beaches? I'm not in Florida, but we have just as much of the old ships where I am.
@@MetalDetectingNYC 100% his channel is growing by the day, I enjoyed your segment in his latest video I had to swing by and subscribe 🤙🏼. I’m looking forward to enjoy your content, Thank you Terry.
His book is an excellent read. He writes just as though he’s talking with you and is very easy to understand. His stories from his time as a Sheriff in Minnisota are are also entertaining. Great interview with the Legend Merrill.
