The very best thing about your videos is that you work at what functions best for YOUR body. The body is a tool which varies, so one would expect that style would also vary. Thanks.

Thanks! Fully agree. Technique is very important for this sport, but it's a mistake to think that technique is one highly specific way to do things that everyone should copy 100%. Great technique is more like concepts that need to be met, but the exact details on how they are met will vary slightly from person to person depending on their unique anatomy, strength etc, even personality sometimes. Then there is always the route of "modifying your body" too with stretching, strength training etc which can also effect which exact details are the best ones to make something happen. And then it becomes a balancing act sometimes on which route to take, modify body first to one day hopefully be able to do a technique in a probably better way, or to figure out the best way to do things with ones current body. Sometimes one way is "right", sometimes the other, and it also heavily depends on what sort of motivation is driving the athlete to even play in the first case. For someone aiming to be a top level player years down the road it might be a no brainer to do half a year of strength work first so that something else will be easier to do after, while for someone who plays on weekends with their friends recreationally it might be ridiculous amounts of out of question to ask them to do 6 months of strength training so that they one day can do a technique better hahah. :)

Learn Beach Volleyball Fast I try always to participate from other coaches. And my approach it is quite similar to youres, I try to figure out what is the best for each individual athlete. But when it comes to youth is different, my point of view is the legs and how flexible they are. But I am inspired by you’re point of view and I will tested by my own. I also changing now my hitting arm from, right to left. I tried it in 2013-2014 but it was so hard for me, because there were so much work to do! But, it will never work out, if I didn’t work out for it 😅 Greetings from Germany

@@michaelwinter3696 Yes! :) I agree coaching youth is to a big degree another skill, I am not so good at it unless the kid happens to be insanely passionate and interested (or for some other reason actually listen to me and try stuff I ask them to try) because then I can coach very similarly to adults.. 😅 Care to explain more about what you do differently with youth coaching? :)

Maybe you're the only person so far who I've heard talking about the bones contact in passing; everyone talk about the platform saying that it should be as flat as possible, but I've always noticed that what I actually like about the standard platform done by the majority of people is the fact that I can generate more power with little arm movement due to the bones contacting the ball, thus making it actually less flat as a platform but nevertheless it's my favorite especially for passing; maybe I would consider trying to flatten it more like you do during receive as you have to kill the ball power instead of generating more.
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 3 года назад
Amazing comment! I love these that gve me even more theories! :) So yes. And again I have to give credit to the Norwegian women national eam coach Martin Engvik for the bones detail. But absolutely. Fo me unfortunately when I use the standard platform and expose the bones to the ball, The bones aren't close enough to eachother to create this "better bounce" effect, and only makes balls bounce irrationally which leads to shanks. So I will probably never get to experience what you are talking about and what is the reality for a lot of players (also including Martin I am quite sure.) But I like the thought of using the bones when you want the ball to bounce a bit more (like onfloatserves, that also requite you to react very late - thus an advantage to have extra bounce in the platform so you don't need to waste time and energy to make the ball bounce high enough), and use a bigger and flatter and less bouncy platform on for example topspin serves. Should be somewhat easy to build the habit of using different platforms depending on what sort of serve is coming at you..! If you end up playing around with this and building this habit (or end up doing something else that you realize might be even better on the way), please get back to me later and let me know how it went! I find these super interesting, and as I said I can't really explore this myself with my set of arms! :)

@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast Thanks for answering even though the video was a bit old! I'll keep you updated about trying to use two different type of platforms. Also, if I can ask you, do you have any idea about when you'll launch your in-depth courses or your book? I just made the switch from playing "indoor" (just doing the basics with other 3 friends actually) to beach and I find I am struggling with a lot of thing but I am really motivated to get better.

@@gianlu6863 Amazing! :) Video might be old, but for me they are all the same, all are super interesting topics for me and I am always interested in getting further into the understanding of all of them! :) So as of now my plan seems to be to focus on RU-vid videos/podcast until the end of september and then attempt to launch the courses presale (basically a limited spots launch to buy all my future courses for a one time fee) and if this launch goes well I will start creating courses then. The group that bought in to the presale will get to vote on which course I should create first, second etc. However, I was planning to launch this already a year or more ago, and then corona shit came and destroyed my life. I hope hope hope this will not happen again but everything is so damn unsure at the moment, I am currently in a lockdown that maybe ended today, maybe not, literally nobody knows anything. So I hope I'll be able to stick to this plan but experience has shown me that I don't have control over my own life in this world situation. We will see.

it seems I will have to try one arm platform. I have tried the way you do it but what I get is scary. making a fist and extending the arm outwards looks like alright. now I am in a cafe and no ball with me. the first thing I will do when I get back home is fixing the broken coffee table in the living room. it has been waiting for 3 months now on the floor with broken legs. I didn't wanna buy a new one, because I feel connected to this one. anyways what was the topic? how to swim butterfly effortlessly, right? no one can do it! give it up and swim like normal people

Would it be bad to use your platform technique but wrap my fingers around my thumb? I don’t know if i could possibly injure my thumb by pulling on it?
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 4 года назад
I think that is a technoque that would work all good! :) I've played around with it a bit and it has the advantage of having a small platform on your hands similar to what the diamond shape hands give. Biggest reason I didn't start using that technique was that I am already used to what I do and I already habitually change to the diamond hands if a ball comes ar my hands and I'm comfortable with it so didn't see a reason to change up something that's not broken. But if both my version of the technique and doing the "hold thumb" version of it that you described are both equally new and uncomfortable for you, I think the technique you suggest would be a good option too! :)

Great videos. I like your explanation of the physics of volleyball. Regarding pointing the hands down on a pass or set, I find doing this causes my arms to be more straight (lessens the chance of bending at the elbows) which makes my passes more accurate. This is especially true if I am tired (tiredness causes me to bend at the elbows). Doing this helps me concentrate. Thanks for the great videos!
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 4 года назад
Thank you! :) That makes sense, especially if you have a tendency to get sloppy with your platform when tired! Also, I think this depends a bit on the ball one is using, that last millisecond quickness is more of a requirement for passing crazy floatserves with the mikasa ball I think, while playing with for example a wilson, an earlier platform might be beneficial because the flight path is a bit more stable but also faster I believe. I haven't quite played enough with the wilson yet to really have a good opinion on how to pass floaters with it though so these are just kind of loose thoughts I have at this point! :)

Heyo! I just found your channel while trying to find a way to fix my platform. I'm fairly new to volleyball and I was feeling discouraged about continuing with it because I didn't think I'd be able to properly receive with how my arms are. Your two videos were the only helpful ones out there and really addressed what's going on and ways to go about creating a solution! Thank you so much for your thoughts on this and for giving me hope that I will one day be able to play volleyball ( : I'm really looking forward to watching more of your videos, learning about the sport, and exploring how to make a platform that works for me!
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 3 года назад
Wow man, that's amazing to hear! I really hope this puts you on a path to enjoy the game, it's just so discouraging to not be able to play well because of a body feature like this. It took me literally years to figure out this one and some other factors that just kept me from not being able to serve receive as well as other people no matter what I tried. So it's amazing to hear I can shorten those years of frustration for other people. And yes, there's nobody else out there talking about this, trust me when I say I watched all the videos because I was so frustrated..! 😅

What about the the hand over first one where it really makes the bony parts face up. I feel my back is too tight to get the forarm meaty part.
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 2 года назад
My general philosophy is: Try it out and see, and if it works for you, then awesome! We are all built differently so our solutions sometimes have to be different. But funnily enough, I have not tried this myself, and my assumption has always been that if I did, my arms would be as far away from eachother as with the "normal" diamond formed grip or worse. However, I just tried and that was not the case, forearms actually come a bit closer, and as you say the bony parts face up which would generate bounce which has some benefits. I actually need to try this out myself, almost can't believe I've missed this..!

It is interesting that you are teaching this because I have used this platform for roughly 25 years. I play at an Open to AA level and this is the first time that I’ve really thought of it this way. One other note is that because of the angles of the arms the ball likes to squat and doesn’t come off the arms quite as fast which often times produces a much lower pass. Great work!
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast
@LearnBeachVolleyballFast 2 года назад
Seems like this comment has slipped me by, sorry for the late reply..! But anyway, haha yes it is interesting how many successful players use various "non standard" platforms with success without thinking about it, at the same time as the majority of coaches preach the standard platform over and over like it is the only way that could possibly work... 🙃 Not exactly sure what you mean with "the ball likes to squat" though? Squat like bending its legs? Or maybe you mean "squat" like squeezing into a deformed piece?
@caleb4572
@caleb4572 Год назад
I wonder if by squat he means not go up as high or bounce off as powerfully. It does seem like the ball is hitting more meat when I use this platform and that the ball doesn’t come off as powerfully. Which could be a good or bad depending on the scenario. Whatever the case, thank you for this video. I’m definitely going to try it because I have severe issues with shanking passes when the ball doesn’t hit in the exact right spot.
