The song "Wind Beneath My Wings" was originally written in 1982 by Jeff Silbar and Larry Henley. Singer Roger Whittaker recorded the first official release of the song, followed over the years by Sheena Easton, Lee Greenwood, Colleen Hewett, Lou Rawls, Gladys Knight & the Pips & Gary Morris. However the most well known and highest charting version by far was recorded by Bette Midler for the 1988 film "Beaches."

I totally understand your pain. My mom passed away in January 1987. My dad passed the day before Mother Day in 2001. When I married a second time, this was our first dance. He was in the Air Force.

Me either…right before we were heading to see Bette in concert, my sister dedicated this to me and when I heard it at the concert it was so much more meaningful and made me emotional. I always let my sister shine and just dealt with all the attention she would get cause of her looks…I would step back and let her have her moments without complaint and then she tells me that meaning she noticed all of what I’m saying, man my heart ached and was blessed at the same time.

Oh man, I know that neither of my parents will be with me long. I had the weirdest experice about a year back - I saw them in the same room, at the same time, for just a brief moment. Dad had dropped by unexpectedly, when Mum was already here. They were divorced when I was so young that I have no memory of ever seeing them together, and MAN that was just trippy to see them in the same room at the same time.

This beautiful song and singer is so very hard for me to listen to, I found a love many years ago after about 3 months we were watching this movie together sitting on the sofa at home, I can remember her face and laughing at her crying at this wonderful song, then after Bette Midler had finished singing she told me she had something to tell me, she told me had cancer and the Dr's had given her 6 months, I don't really remember much more of that conversation and it was I that ended up in tears and still do everytime i hear this song, She fought and fought for 3 more long years but most days i remember her and miss the fun we had together, She used to say to me do not be sad be happy and remember the good times we had, Sleep well my princess x

I am 55. My mom.passed last year . She was 91. Her best friend just lived three houses up. Her name is Diana. She is in her final days. . My long time friend ( Diana's) daughter moved back after 30 years to take care of her mom and her dad. He just had surgery on both kidneys due to cancer. He is ok. My friend had three German Sheppards. One female and two male. She was the mom of the two. Mom had to be laid to rest from cancer. This was one week ago. So the two male dogs are distraught and confused. They act like... where is mom. ..My friends mom ( as above) will be passing before Thanksgiving. With this all said, this is the perfect song for my friend Caryn. 😢..so sorry for your losses. I will always be by your side, my friend. We have known each other since we were 7 and 6 years old. I love you. I always will unconditional. RIP.

I love this song. It describes my husband’s and my relationship perfectly. I flew high in my career with his encouragement and he always put me first no matter what the cost to himself. He was my hero. I lost my my wings when he grew his angel wings and flew to heaven in 2019. Now I am a shadow of my former self without his love.

Love this song...saw the movie years before i ever thought i would have it sung at my sons funeral. He was just 10 years old when he left us back in 2000. He was and still is the wind beneath my wings... he was a special child with special disabilities undiagnosed...but stronger than most people..he made me strong. Now years later he still continues to give me strength. Im a 3 year cancer survivor and without the strength he taught me, im not sure i would of made it....he will forever be the wind beneath my wings. Love you little Austin B.

I remember the first time I watched the movie "Beaches" and this song was sung. I still cry when I watch clips of this movie. It was a very touching story of friendship between two women and the challenges they had to overcome throughout the years. The ending was particularly touching when Bette Midler was named as guardian of Barbara Hershey's daughter in the movie. I real tear jerker!

One of the most amazingly beautiful song that Bette Midler has sang. This touches people in different ways. When I saw the movie Beaches many years ago it reminded of my childhood best friend which until today we are still friends even though our families and us are separate between oceans. She is a cancer survivor strong faith woman. And to everyone who this song bring saddens and hope at the same time God Bless. 🙏🏼🌹✨

This song was sung a few years ago for the 9/11 memorial service by Bette Midler. I cried when I saw Beaches I cried at the memorial service and every time I hear it is so touching and heartfelt. It’s my favorite movie song and I will carry it in my heart always. ❤️

This was one my Mom’s favorite songs. She passed away from a heart attack July 6th, 2017. After she passed my sister and I made ourselves go get some food. Pulled into a restaurant parking lot and this song came on the radio. I started crying so hard , but it was like she was telling my sister and I that she was okay and at peace. So to this day , I can’t listen to this without crying. I miss Mom so much, but it gives me comfort that she is at peace and is happy And she is reunited with my Dad again. ♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏

I remember when this song came out, I played it for my Mama and thanked her for being my supportive wind beneath my wings. I told her I wished that I could have the patience, tolerance and the ability to face each trial with grace and faith. I saw that in her everyday. I lost her, quite suddenly, on 3 January this year and will definitely be playing this song at her fineral next Friday. This song is my tribute to my wonderful, God-filled, caring Mum.
