How to beach your boat! This was our first time to deliberately beach our Southerly 42 in the Bahamas. Crystal blue waters and white sand!

It is so cool that you can beach your boat. Probably comes in very handy.

Nice. The equivalent of "boondocking" in an RV, though the view is much better. :) I wish I could do that, but with 4.5' draft sail vessel, I can only dream. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Great video. Can you recommend a smaller starter boat (preferably used) to learn to sail on? I have good Sailing experience as a child. Only on lakes. Any advice is appreciated. God Bless

I like bilge keels-u can get retractable fin keels-its much easier-but u pay for stability without the fin in heavy waters prob bobs up n down like a cork with no keel appendages and high mast

Your boat was built about 10 miles from where I live.

How many passing cruisers offered to "help" you off the sandbar????
@DistantShoresTV

+R&D people often offer help, or more likely warn us about shallows as we explore. In this case the area was completely deserted in the Acklins group in Bahamas. Hours later a fisherman came past :-)

Need to watch for wrecks rock's submerged obstacles reefs etc,i dont know if i would try beaching in choppy waters without checking its clear first. Dunno what a boat like that is like for bellying out ,ive got a bilge keel -steel skids in fibre glass framing can sit it on rocky beach easy enough but ive gotta watch dont hit a rock when motoring in would crack fibre glass hull-ive seen even really thick ones crack before,most fiber glass boats when u crack the hull open its murder to fix if its even possible sometimes-ive cut some rubber slices put em around the bow above and just below water line-i hit a torpedo creeper log-saturated wood was making it float just beneath the surface rendering it invisible no unless u were really looking and expecting it-but yupp the rubber helped deflect the impact ,without it i think it might of at least cracked the hull cause it was quite a thump giant big pier sleeper

Why would you want to do this? It seems like you still wouldn't be able to access anything on the bottom for maintenance and now you are just scratching your paint. Is there a reason you do this?

mtcaddis 1.Beaching is beneficial because you have more options when in comes to anchoring, you also no longer need a port/dock which isn’t always accessible. Anchoring at deep sea requires a dingy or jet ski to get ashore, but if you have an outboard or shallow hull sailboat you can coast or power through the shallow waters directly to beach which is more convenient. (Trim: electronically lift your propellers/engine out of the water so there’s nothing patruding below the boat) 2.It’s pretty obvious if you are island hopping, there’s many benefit to landing directly on the beach rather than searching for place or paying fee’s to port. 3.All boats are not equipped to maneuver through shallow waters, the boat you are watching is to an extent & the shallow waters are not (scratching it). If the boat hit a rock or reef you wouldn’t be worried about scratches, you’d most likely sustain a puncture and sink.

how to get keel up , down, if electric power fails ?
@DistantShoresTV
@DistantShoresTV 5 лет назад
There is a manual pump. I tried it and it takes a few minutes to raise the keel up👍
@visionist7
@visionist7 4 года назад
If you hit anything keel down, it'll hinge easily up and down and avoid real damage
