You are such a great teacher. Thank you. I remember watching my mother bead on her clothing when I was young. I loved watching her make beautiful items. My people are from Manitoulin Island. I am Ojibwe . It is wonderful to learn traditional skills. My mother taught us basic basket weaving when we were young. How to to harvest vines and make them into useful and beautiful items. We learned about different tannins to dye with. Played at sanding feathers. My grandfather taught me to track and about local flora and fauna on our farm in Michigan as a child. I learned to skin in 3rd grade. Thank you for helping me further my traditional skills and be able to pass them on to my daughter. Have a beautiful day, Thank you.

Thank you so much for your heart warming words. I too am Ojibwe, from the Manitoba/Ontario boarder. I am so happy to see that you learned so much from your elders and are continuing to learn so you can pass it down to the next generation. Miigwech and many blessings from the creator on you and your family.

I have finally found a teacher I can relate to. I've watched a lot of videos trying to learn and they're good, but they're not right for me. You are a great teacher. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get started. And what you were saying about the stiff felt, I had no idea what to use so I'm glad you explained that. Common sense told me the cloth needed to be tight so I was going to put it in an embroidery hoop. I am a new subscriber .

And very encouraging; I felt like I had a motivational speaker with me telling me to make sure I relax and just worry about it being neat 😅 I had the stupid problem of pulling too tight 🤦🏻‍♀️ Im a bead weaver so I’m used to pulling tightly but you’re absolutely right I just skim over a lot of silly mistakes I’m making and you bring them to my attention! I love how detailed you are in explaining the different options. Your voice also makes the process seem like it is easy to conquer. That said, which of the methods would you recommend for beading on T-shirts?
@ManieMartinez
@ManieMartinez 2 года назад
That is a tricky question to answer. It depends on what you will be doing. With wearable washable items you will need to secure the beads heavily. You will also need to check that the beads don't loose their color or shine when washed. String some beads on thread that you plan to use and put them in a small sack and wash how you plan to wash the garment. That will tell you if they will work. I would also recommend that you use a heavier gauge thread then normal. You want to fill the beads with thread so they don't wiggle on the tread and cut their way through. So try a small sample first and wash and wear lots before creating a bigger piece that will take a lot of your time. (a pocket piece or little item near the hem or where a top pocket would be can be cute) Enjoy the journey

I really enjoyed your instruction, I have been doing some beading - of sorts- in different applications then most people today are doing it. I am a crafter and use it for totes, purses, and on clothing and I am self taught so viewing yours today was by all means enlightening! You have shown me how to improve my skills considerably. I am interested also in knowing a little of your background- if you care to share- I studied Native American history in college and have enjoyed working with Native American and their cultures a great deal over the years and listening to you I was just wondering what part of the country you are form. I am currently living in Northwestern Wisconsin but I have also lived and worked in Eastern Az. Just wondering- anyway, Thank you very much for all your instruction and I will be sure to keep watching and learning.
