That's an incredibly awesome opportunity. I worked for close to 35 years and that is one classy gesture by the Bridge Authority. I hope that an effort is made to preserve the signatures for the life of the bridge.
Congratulations to everybody who put time and effort into this project. Just like Notre Dame, I hope to see this completed during my lifetime. I saw, Notre Dame in 1985. I want to see it again after being repaired from the fire. I want to see the Gordy Howe when it is complete.
This bridge is needed. BTW, it was Canada that wanted and willing to provide the financing the bridge. Michigan is supposed to pay Canada back through toll collection.
Michigan wanted it as well, unfortunately they had to deal with Manuel ‘Matty’ Moroun and his efforts to stop the bridge. Only his impending death in 2020 allowed the bridge to finally move forward, by which time Canada had done the necessary work to start its construction.
The existing Ambassador Bridge carries $300M+ of trade between the US and Canada every day, assuming that at least half of that trade traffic is redirected to the Gordie-Howe Bridge then Michigan should be able to pay off their financial obligations relatively quickly.
@@JollyOldCanuck Hi from Windsor! IKR? The GHB will make up for lost dividends through quick drive-throughs. (Hopefully) That remains to be seen. At least the old effer is no longer calling the shots.
43,000 views, thats awesome. This truly is a part of history and all of these videos have been nothing short of spectacular. The inclusion in this video is fantastic, you can tell how proud everyone is. The behind the scenes on a project like this is hard to imagine, so many people working together for a common goal. History in the making.
AMAZING! I can't wait to use this bridge! Wow, this will be iconic for the next 100 years! Kudos to everyone that's working on it and Thank You CANADA, our neighbor to the south!! (hehe, if you live here you know)
Not YOU again. I PWND you. I hoped you would fade into the shadows. You Live in Michigan, the state who said that they didn't have any money to contribute to this project, but yet, begged the Canadian Govt' to at least control the U.S. side. And 1/2 the profits to go with it. If I was negotiating this deal, I would have held the U.S.'s balls in a vice grip. I would have squeezed and squeezed, until they were blue, until the U.S. begged for mercy, A win-win for the U.S. side indeed. Don't you even think about how you thought you were smart enough to change the Gordie Howe Bridge name? Do you know who WAS Gordie Howe??? Hmmm? (He was a great Canadian Hockey player who was born in the Canadian Provence of Saskatchewan, Who was born not far from my own Father's birthplace.) I might add, where Canada is footing the entire bill. The U.S. and Michigan govt's are nothing but freeloaders. Including YOU. You remember, when you step over into Canada in Windsor, I will be waiting for you with 4" heels to tell you otherwise. And it's not going to be pretty. Just tell me - Tunnel or the CS Bridge? Your choice.
@@NooDLES411911 I'm a going to go there. Where? Have I been sleeping under a rock?? No....I've been in Australia for the last 10 years and I miss home. I can't tell you enough how I miss home.
@Sandra-mw3yp shelbys started in London by 2 students from fanshawe but it's rapidly growing across Ontario. They have really good shawarma, mainly because their spices on the meat and their delicious sauces and pickles.
@@NooDLES411911 I think I seen them on a show here in Australia. I'm quite sure I have. BTW, there is a Lebanese place on McDougal and Tecumseh, where they are shady at best, and one night I was in there, i seen a rat/mouse run across the floor out the back door. I ordered a wrap but the beeotch decided to give me one out of the fridge from the lunch rush and tried to push it off as fresh.....This is the same outfit of the Lebanese joint that it was down the main street of Ouellette...same owners...same attitude and arrogance. If you told them about what you seen or your wrap was met with threatening intimidation. I have never been there since after that time; They just shocked me and I called the health unit after that encounter. This is the same owner who stopped his BMW on the one-way on Ouellette and expected everyone behind him would just wait for him to do his business. I personally stood there and watched it all unfold, He took more than 5 or more mins inside his shop to come out and move his car, and when other drivers complained, he all told them to STFU or he was going to send an assin squad. It was shocking.
This bridge will be a huge economic jump forward. It’s unfortunate the electoral system and the court system was abused to delay it. Hopefully when tolls pay off the loans, and drop to just the permanent maintenance fund level, the adjacent bridge operation goes bankrupt, and the Province or the State can buy it at scrap value, and lower tolls again to just permanent maintenance level.
I hope, if the Canadian Govt' can bring them to their knees, the Windsor and Canadian Govt's are holding the cards in this situation. Too bad for the Moroun family where they cannot cash in like they thought they could. The Moroun family held the cards for so long and MILKED it for everything that it was worth. And they knew it. Now, they are just trying to squeeze every last dollar that (squeeze) they can
It would be great if you actually celebrated the men and women who have actually put their skills, sweat and energy into this project. It's easy to sit in an office and talk about a job. It's another to actually work. United we stand...
Perfectly said....there is always so much more...My father was a Construction Engineer who took me on rides in his Gradtor when I was younger, if it was snowplowing or grading a space for a building. My dad taught me everything, and I had that super-thristing-sponge that I absorbed all of it. I still have that building mind; how to do better and when to do better has never left me. My husband and I are always debating which is best - sometimes I can bring him to reason; after he had a sleep and can think logically the next day. It's hard.
I hope to God that nothing is from China in it's construction. We have the best Iron Ore pellets in the world in Michigan. with the steel mills, The shipping would be really close. But just discovered Canada has Iron Ore mines as well, So American steel for the west side & Canadian steel coming from Quebec for the east side solves the problem with customs. But just found that $42.Million in stainless steel bars was purchase from China for the bridge in 2021-22. That's what is holding the prefabricated road slabs together. This is going to compromise the Life expectancy of the road supporting slabs. This kind of compromise is what sunk the Titanic with bad Steel & Rivets that became brittle when cold.. The Gordie Howe Bridge now has a Achilles heel, This wasn't smart. Then went $750. Million over Budget & an extra year behind schedule. Way to go.
Yes, It's a Bridge. If they use anything less than North American Made, (And the Chinese products are less than quality made) then we have a problem. Do not ask for secondary ingredient or additives. Do your quality control. You do not want less than quality ingredients on a steel beam for it only to degrade and break down where human lives are going to be at risk. If you were - yes - you knew that substandard steel was being used and only a matter of time before it collapsed...would you cross over on that bridge? My father was a Canadian Construction Engineer who prided himself on doing it right, and knowing it wasn't going to fail... Either way Bud...your life is on the line. Which would you choose? I hope, like all Americans, you don't have a double-digit IQ - A triple digit IQ is preferable.
