Howdy y’all- great review on the different food storage containers. We don’t have a lot of bears in our area to worry about. But, occasionally someone living in the country will have a problem with a bear getting in their trash. Usually, the authorities will relocate it. Take care and God bless

Once a bear finds a food source it will always come back and check see if more is to be had! That is a guaranty! Relocating is a must. Take care Paul, thanks for the visit✌️

How's she goin'? The bears we have in Nova Scotia aren't really aggressive but they will search out food if they can smell it. So having a bear proof container is always a good plan for any overnighter in the woods. Thanks for sharing these different options for keeping the bears away from our food. Take care!!!

Bears are opportunists! And quite savvy at getting into things so it’s important to discourage them! Thanks and take care Mike✌️

I ended up settling on hanging a barrel (30L). I like bear canisters but there is just never enough room in any of them in my opinion. The barrel gives me enough room to be diligent in reducing scent as much as possible with as much bagging as I want, as well as letting me put absolutely everything inside (cookware included). Also makes it convenient packing wise as the size means it's just my entire camp kitchen + food (scented items as well) and nothing food or scent related (apart from me) packs with the rest of my gear. Also while obviously not bear proof, it's at least more durable and harder to get a hold of for a bear hanging in the tree than a bag is, as well as doing a much better job with raccoons and mice. I don't think there is a perfect option. For me, the most important thing is doing your best to reduce scent as much as possible (nothing is going to be 100% smell proof as far as a bear is concerned), then making it as inaccessible as you can.

I agree, finding the right balance is difficult. 30L is actually a nice manageable size although can still become quite heavy to hang on a line. I mostly camp in the Boreal and I don't have trees with long extending branches to through a line over, making a bear container more useful to me.The bear bag I'm not a fan of. Although a bear can't get into it, by the time a bear has become frustrated with it and walks away all its content is destroyed. Unless of course one is ok with having jerky flavoured peanut butter rice for supper 😆 Thanks for checking in Emmet✌️

@@OpenAirOutdoors That's very understandable, there are definitely some areas where hanging is next to impossible. I agree with you about the Kevlar bags. Best case scenario your food is a crushed mess (and while they can't rip it I've heard of lots of cases of them puncturing it, which means everything is also covered in bear saliva). Mice will also chew through Kevlar with ease. Cheers, and hope the upcoming season gives you a bunch of great trips!

Great breakdown Marc! Never knew of the bear vault before. I'm still rolling the dice by not having anything bear/smell proof.

Well I think they are a better option than hanging food from a tree. That bears can get to I may add!! I used to not care but I have had some encounters. Take care Tyler✌️

I may have referred to the Ursack bag as an Ursa bag…well actually I did 😂 Apparently I’ve been watching too many camera reviews 😆. Nice job on this Brother! Very educational. 👊🏻🍻👍🏻

Marc I just came back from my camp , my area is polluted with bears . Oh ya I've learned a lot over the years . I had a 150 pound timber wolf walk across my pasture yesterday morning , I howled at it and it just gave me the shunk eye and kept on going 😅 Local bears are a nuisance , my bears are all business. Nice gear to show what works and what doesn't. 👍

The bears that have grown accustom to people are the worst to have around! Awesome on catching sight of a wolf! Thats a rare one to have👍 Thanks for hanging out Steve🍻

.I don't understand English friends. But I do know that this place is sensational and that if there is something that would terrify me, it is to find myself one day with a bear in the middle of a forest. Greetings and blessings to my friends.
