Using CMMG Gen2 mags on a BCA .22lr upper they tend to push up on the ejector causing the bolt to jam. Not sure if this happens with other manufactures. Simple solution is to file down part of the feed lip on the left side. Only takes about +/- 1/16 of an inch.
Very impressive upper in 22LR. I think I might have to get me one. Thanks for sharing all the info you answered all my questions. Well done Sir. Charly Mic😉👊🇺🇸 ... #FJB
I just got a 10.5 upper and shot it today for teh first time. I had limited time, and had issues, but I figured out after that it was my fault the plug that goes at the back in place of the charge handle, I overtightened it and the oring was dragging on the buffer weight slowing it down and hanging causing double feeds, or not extracting properly. now I need to get back and try it again.
Well actually, it doesnt use the standard buffer. So that was an incorrect thought. It has its own built in buffer/weight system built right into the bolt. Shot 3 different brands through out. All 40 gr. Only one problem. The recoil spring is too heavy, or the buffer weight is too heavy. It'll shoot, eject the shell. Load the next shell. But then click. As if the action didn't cycle back far enough to reset the trigger. Shot maybe 50 rds. This happened at least every 3rd or 4 shot. You could actually feel the bolt moving after the shot and could feel it wasn't resetting. Is there a heavier bullet than 40 grain?
Great video Warthog! BCA pissed me off though. I bought a gen 1 sidecharger and literally a week or two later they released the gen 2. I found out quickly why they did it and I think it's good they changed the design. I just thought it was fukt that they wanted $100 and your old bolt to get the gen 2 style. Ummm, how bout y'all just hook up the folks that bought your shitty gen 1 style. Ultimately the situation, in my opinion, was the same as getting a defective part that should be replaced by the manufacturer OR take my $100 for the gen 2 and let me keep the gen 1 as a backup bolt.🤷 anyway, I'm happy with everything else I bought from them and you're the guy that first told me about them. I have 5 lowers. Four are topped with BCA uppers. When I get some expendable funds I'll be buying another one for that last lower. You da bess bro!🤘🏻🍻🇺🇸
@@Warthog71 I'll probs just leave it as is. It's just a 7.5" fun gun/truck gun anyway. It likely won't see the kind of action that would make the loose handle a serious problem. I just wish the new handle could mount to the gen 1 bolt.
They sent me a replacement gen 2 handle since mine was sticking out of the box and scratched. I also have a gen 1 and just put the gen 2 handle on the gen 1. It fits just fine I dont know if older gen 1 bolts have different holes.
I received a Bear Creek 22 long rifle upper receiver last week. I put 180 rounds through it not cleaned it and it runs perfectly. I am really pleased with this 22 upper. It is far superior to the kits used as conversions.
@@tynado1173 I went to the site as soon as I got the email and could have purchased it then, but something else grabbed my attention at that moment. 5 min later I was too late. I will say this. I just ordered their 20”6.5CM upper for $269 plus 10% off plus another 5% military discount. Insane!
Nice grab! I'm still not up on the reciprocating side chargers. That being said, I might be interested in one of the charging handle was in the left side. I do think there is potential in the bcg they have. Thanks for the info and break down!
Thx bud. X Products makes a bad ass left side non reciprocating upper, as well as Gibbs and Spartan. But those uppers are all over $200 stripped. They are a interesting addition to the collection though.
they fixed the non supported chamber problem . i sent mine back to them after 1 1/2 years no ? asked and replaced the entire upper with the new fully supported chamber version.
@Warthog71 bore buddy's made me aware of this issue and post it on a rimfire website showing all the details(can't remember which one but easy to find) He also wrote a reveiw on that same upper on BCA website over a year old but it was still their last i checked.
the cmmg/psa are based on a ciener patent and are straight blowback not radial Delayed. The only radial delayed blowbacks are the brand-new cmmg Centerfire guns
Disclaimer: The NYS safe act is the most vital and important piece of gun safety legislation that has been enacted since the invention of the Arquebus in France. Be sure to follow all NYS firearm laws when visiting or residing. They are there to keep you safe. The only 22LR exception to the Safe Act would be a tube fed design. Another exception includes that of being a Law Enforcement Agent, or Officer
Not to ruffle any feathers but your comment about the slop on the bolt while valid, id like to throw the idea of needed give/slop. Some things too rigid cause fail points. Theres always gotta be some things that have to give a little to run. Im not saying this is absolutely the case, but it could be.
Thanks for the reply, I think a lot of problems manufacturors have comes with an engineering process when creating new products, because its one thing to have an idea and another to make it work. Some weapons out there are great in theory and in certain instances, but fail in others unless certain variables are accounted for and adhered to ensure function ie. Type of mags, ammo, spring issues, barrel length, etc etc The more people try to reinvent the wheel the more issues to work around they get. How has it been runnin since video? Estimated round count?
Agreed. So far about 500rds, but I’m selling it to a bud of mine. It’s finicky with ammo, though accurate enough. Biggest issue for me is it’s inability to run subs.
I have been toying with the idea of an AR 22, but, part of me still wants to get another Ruger 10/22, I had two and sold them, even though I didn't want to. One of my buddies bought a farm and had varmint problems, he loves it and won't sell it back. I had a 100 round banana mag.
Good to see you again. Great review. I want to get one but thier website was kind of wierd as they did not show me ANY 22l.r.? See your crew is still exited to being in the background.
Hey Jamie! Thanks a lot! Yep the crew is still hanging out! You’re right about not being able to find it. You have to pack a lunch and search the whole damn site. I put 22LR in the search and scrolled down. It was way down the bottom. If you do it on a computer it’s easier
how many rounds you got through yours? also you have any issues loading that mad? I think its weird that the bullets dont stack up directly on top of each other, like the bullets rim stops the next rd from goin all the way to the back of the mag. not sure if thats an issue or normal. doesnt have the pull down feature most 22lr mads have.
That pull down handle is normally on the S&W22LR mags. They will work, but won’t hold the bolt open. Black dog mags are the best for the AR platform. The rounds sit well
@@Warthog71 i was thinking the same i don't if it would trip the auto seer i do have a friend he has a old full auto lower and most of bca uppers are over gassed so it doesn't trip the auto seer and just jams
@@rebel._ now that I didn’t know. I guess I’ll have to remember it moving forward and change out the gas blocks for the two other upper I have in x39 and 6.5 grendel. I’d imagine I would need to if shooting suppressed
For the price you cannot beat it brother. It was $285 w/ my military discount. Also, I just picked up a 11.5” 556 side charger for $220 complete. I don’t see anyone being able to compete price wise
Nice. I just ordered the 22lr side charge upper. Looks very cool. Im gonna be running bufferless with a fixed picatinny mount stock. Just so I can use this style stock, There bolt group is the same reason I ordered. I have a left side charge right eject ar 9 upper from BCA also. I run it all the time. Thanks for the info.
They are def a lot of fun to run without a stock attached. Having the option is a def plus! Just remember that it doesn’t like a subs. It is pretty accurate though. Happy New Year!
Actually, it’s not. I should have discussed that. Though it’s similar, it’s smaller sharpened like a flat head screwdriver and is encompassed in a spring. Pretty Standard for all AR22 BCGs
Thank You Sir! I had no idea BCA had these. The price is right! I assembled an upper from Right To Bear. It is based on CMMG design which (I read) is based on an earlier bolt design. It works great! I purchased the 6x acss primary arms scope during the 12% off sale last week. CM! 👍🇺🇸 #22aday
@@Warthog71 I have not posted yet. I believe I have some still shots to create a short presentation. I started adding it up and if the BCA is $300 or so, it is a great deal! CM! 👍🇺🇸 #22aday
They’re usually stamped on the barrel. , but you can look at you bolt head and clearly see how much thinner it is around lugs as opposed to the 556 bolt head. Plus the barrel threading is 5/8x24 TPI
Nice review, I love the 22lr. Couple questions though. I have a Franklin Armory BFS on one of my lowers, would this work together? I wasn’t able to tell from your video, but can you use your own rail with their receiver? Lastly, any update if this works with a FA system? They’re always fun to watch.
Hey Bo. Good questions. Yes. You can swap out rails with the BCA upper. For the binary trigger, I do know it does not work with my Echo2. Normally to run a 22LR BCG like cmmg you would need the anti wobble/sear trip kit to add to the bolt ($30) To date there is no such kit for the BCA 22LR bolt. That said, FA might not work either because of the lack of a seer trip attachment. Plus looking at the design, there’s no way of making one for the BCA without changing the design completely. I should do a video on it. Finally, there is a silver lining…. It does work with the double tap trigger! They’re $199, but binary only. I have one and it is a lot of fun! My only regret is that the BCA doesn’t run subs period. Hope this helped! Chat Mike 🇺🇸
The 22 upper will not work with a auto sear and I dony believe binary will work either. The rear of the bcg is different I think bca has a video showing
@@schrodingersgat4344 yes they are a thumper. Would do even better in a 1:9 twist because of their weight. But I will say that they’ve been very accurate.
I have one of the 16" versions with the new handguard and it's been a mixed bag in my opinion. I have had two out-of-battery detonations which the secondary one sent my extractor/spring/plunger into low orbit. Contacted BCA customer assistance and they were super kind and had a kit shipped to my house next week. It's a bit ammo picky, but keeping the upper relatively wet seems to negate most failure-to-feed/failure-to-eject issues. Lastly, it doesn't like my lowers with buffer tubes, the back part of the bolt carrier group gets stuck when I go to charge the rifle and won't release until you pop the rear takedown pin and start to separate the receivers. With a lower receiver that has an endplate, like my BRN-180 lower, it has had no issues at all. Almost seems like it requires an end plate, but I see others shoot them with a regular lower (with buffer tube) and they don't appear to be having issues.
I agree with you on it all. Though I didn’t have any issues with any buffer systems. That said. I’ve sold it. If it doesn’t cycle subs and is picky with ammo, it’s useless. It does run Norma ammo flawlessly however IMO BCA is a decent company and they do state that subs aren’t recommended. Plus they say to use quality ammo, so I cannot get myself to go ahead and do a negative review just to get views. I basically picked it up for the novelty. The bottom line is, that CMMG and PSA make the most reliable 22LRS on the market. Perhaps I’ll do a video by comparison before this upper is picked up from my friend.
@@Warthog71 I agree. My idea with purchasing this upper was to use it as a training aid on the AR platform while also saving money with current 5.56/.300blk prices. Details that you pointed out, only having one point of contact and that one point also being too flexible is probably where most of the issues stem from. Either that or potentially the additional weight of the charging handle. I was surprised to see they utilize a full-size charging handle on something that is a direct blowback. I can't help but wonder if it potentially causes some issues especially for .22lr. As we both know, ammunition isn't treated fairly across the board and the .22lr is the epitome of that. I'm most likely going to sell mine as well to a buddy in favor of getting their newly released 10.5" length for the .22lr. They're not able to run sub-sonics very well, but I would think a 10.5" paired with a suppressor should hopefully cycle super-sonic ammunition fine. I would think that with only 10.5" barrel that the round should hopefully stay sub-sonic if not right at the threshold. Apologies for the long reply, but I certainly appreciate the video and your secondary commentary above.
