Beautiful to see the bears. The soil is still dry even after the melt where you are. Good drainage. Those at the bottom of valleys will see the cumulative affects of ground water collecting.
My family lived at the Y in Tahoe in the late 50's and early 60's. We never saw a bear or a coyote even though we explored the surrounding woods all the time. Your videos make me so homesick and bring back so many memories.
There is a bear who regularly walks by a bedroom window at our Tahoe home. You can hear its breath as it lumbers by. They regularly break in to homes in the neighborhood. We didn’t have them wandering in the neighborhood years ago. It is amazing how the snow is disappearing!
Yes we have issues in our neighborhood as well with the bears breaking in and some mornings I see multiple car doors open that the bears have gone through. The snow is going pretty quickly in many places.
Not a lot of water content with most of the storms, I think that's why the pack is melting so fast. I saw some brown patches at Kirkwood today which was odd given how deep it still is in other spots.
As the melt commences, there will be vegetation growth the likes of which we haven't seen for quite some time now. So, if California gets many sharp and protracted heat waves throughout the Summer, accompanied with offshore blows, fire season could still be as bad as any we've had, in recent memory.
What a special day when you can see a mother with two cubs that were born while she was hibernating. She must’ve been awake enough to attend to them after each popped out. She would chew off their umbilical cord, eat the placenta for it’s energy and lick the cubs clean. I have no idea so please correct me, I wasn’t trying to be funny with what I said. Humans are vulnerable during and after birth. We can’t go out in the snow without warm shoes and clothing. Does the ground feel cold to our four legged animals? It’s tough with all of the changes that people have made to our domesticated animals. We’ve go dogs and cats with long fur to no fur, so the “naked” ones would freeze to death in the winter and get sunburned in the summer. The hairless cats can’t even groom themselves, you have to bathe them. Sorry, I don’t know how I got on this tangent!
