While is it true the majority of people who ended up in the water died within 5 minutes there were a few very very lucky people who survived in the water for a somewhat prolonged time that night including Officer Lightholler, Archibald Gracie and Charles Joughin.

Same. I googled it...apparently it's really common. If people die in the dead zone it's not really safe to retrieve them. So their dead bodies are preserved in ice to be passed by new oncoming climbers.

I absolutely love how Bear says that making a primitive fire (with no equipment) can be very difficult. I'm sure a lot of people here have tried it and if you have no experience, it's nigh on impossible. When I first started I had no idea the proper way to do it and just assumed fire would catch and maintain effortlessly.. but nah, it can be very difficult.

The funny thing about this comment is that bears life is actually based on survival movies. He watches them and then tells the stories like it happened to him. If someone tells him batman begins is a survival movie, he will walk around telling people how he was trained by some secret assassins after falling into a cave full of bats. This guy is just classic case of Münchhausen-syndrom.

I'd say it's largely an outdoorsman thing. If you also watch Alex Honnold do his thing with climbing videos, he has the exact same perspective. These two men understand that you dont need full accuracy to have a good time

Seeing Bear Grylls brings me back to binge watching Man Vs Wild in the 2000’s for hours at a time and still having zero confidence in my abilities to come out on top in a survival situation.
