Bear opens gate and walks on Brooks Lodge Bridge

It’s a park ranger not a guard. He is very familiar with bear behavior and is likely very familiar with this particular bear and it’s temperament. It is a younger bear, likely very submissive and lacking confidence. He is providing pressure and the bear is attempting to flee. He is maintaining that pressure but also giving space for the bear to figure it out. He is armed with bear spray and likely a firearm. His goal is to make the experience unrewarding for the bear in order to discourage the behavior. Bears are smart and curious animals. If they try something and get a reward they will continue to do that thing and be more confident and bold. If that pattern becomes dangerous to humans it sadly has deadly consequences for the bear.

But looks like his mom, 273 the year before she had him!!!

I want their job to.love bears from a far.

Everyone was fine. The park rangers are awesome and keep everyone safe.

This is Katmai Nationl Park in Alaska

True, the poor thing was scared and was trying to get off . Give the bear some time instead of charging at it.
