The location of a point from another point is a description for what is called the reversed bearing. In exams you can be asked to find the bearing of point A from point B and vice versa . Understanding reversed bearing can help with bearing problems like that.

I don't get the last example

The last example was solved in two ways. I'll like to talk about the second method The question says the bearing of X from Y is 320° find the bearing of Y from X. The bearing of X from Y being 320 means that if you are to get the direction of X you have to move 320° clockwise from North of Y. 320° happens to fall in the north west region. The line drawn from that point gives the position of X. But we are asked to find the direction of Y from the X position. If you are standing at Y it is 320° to get X But what if you're standing at X That's what the question is about. Still moving from the north position of X clockwise based on the diagram you'll get the position of Y at 140°. You may want to draw the diagram to understand better. Note the line drawn from the north west region of Y falls on the south east region of X. The angle drawn from the north of X to the line gotten from Y is the angle we are looking for. That angle is equal in value to the angle from South of Y to the line connecting X. To get the angle we use 320° in Y minus 180° (since moving from North to South in Y is angle on a straight line 180) Subtracting gives us the angle 140. This angle we said is equal to the one we are looking for which is the direction of Y from X. Diagrams are essential in this type of bearing. Remember the bearing of X from Y is the angular distance moved from North of Y to get X direction represented by a line while the bearing of Y from X is the angular distance from North of X to the line connecting the two positions. I will be happy to explain further if you still find it confusing. You can still message me on Whatsapp 07013907624
