A Montana grizzly bear attempts to retrieve an electrically charged, road-killed deer. The deer is electrified as an experiment to protect hunters’ game kills and, in turn, to minimize bear-human encounters.
1:08 This is fascinating to me because the bear is just lying there, possibly for hours, just pondering the situation and how he can solve the problem. It’s like he’s thinking “What’s different here” and then sees the battery and wonders if he removes that if anything will change. *Very intelligent animal.*
Very intelligent and the way he tests the carcass to see if the shock has disappeared after he knocks the battery down is just wow. This for me is equivalent to a person that doesn't like maths solving a very difficult sum
Your saying he knew the battery was making it shock him and destroyed it? 😂😂 I think he was just A bit curious at what the box was and got lucky and unplugged it then went back to messing with the carcass and found out it’s no longer shocking him….. not saying your wrong cause I guess no one really knows
@@SneakyGang412 lol yeah or I think he cab smell what things were connected or different etc. They have the strongest smells in the world can smell us from a mile or more away. But him being lucky probably the case lol.
He knew that the box was fishy and wanted to take it out of the equation. And behold the carcass is no longer live. If this was done again with the same bear,. I bet anything he would move the battery before touching the corpse. Would be great to test this theory.
The third time, after he disconnected the battery, the way he was checking to see if it was gonna shock him reminded me of how I used to be as a kid after I’d unhooked the power to the electric fence.😂 Even though I knew FOR A FACT that it had zero power going to it, I still had to barely touch it and yank my hand back really fast bout eleventeen times before I crossed it…you know, just to make sure.😆😂🤣
The few times I've been shocked it makes me more angry than it hurts. Its weird but after being shocked I just want punch the Heck of something or somebody !
I remember climbing up to the top of an electric fence and it went off a few times before I realized what was going on. Good thing I was wearing rubber boots or it probably would have hurt pretty bad. Must have been like 5 or 6 and I still remember that pretty vividly.
I LOVE when the carcass is swinging back and forth, and the bear is backing away every time it swings towards him. That was freakin awesome! Thank you!
I like to write an people like to read my stuff , sometimes behind my back at the least expected times, but anyway Im curious everytime I go through the comments I often see people using the terms I made up against me and they laugh! ... then I laugh! 😁 which on 2nd thought doesn't that technically make me immune? 😀 idk Lol!!
That was incredible 😳 Persistent doesn't even begin to describe them!! We need to add unbelievable patience to that as well lol. I love when after he was shocked twice, the camera shows him laying there and you could almost see the wheels turning in his head. I just about expected to see him drawing a diagram to figure out how to win the carcass. I loved it!!
In a similar experiment, a sheep carcass was electrified using the same setup. The bear got zapped a few times, batted at the apparatus from a few angles and pondered a while, eventually figured out that the battery was the problem, sent it flying, and made off with the sheep.
They're probably the most fun animals to hunt, especially with dogs. It's a rush having a 600 pound black bear 10 foot above you in a tree, knowing if it comes down what's going to happen.
It didn't figure anything out. It happened to stand on the battery, and then try the deer again. Maybe next time it encounters the same set up the bear may remember the sequence of standing on the battery and not getting shocked, thereby demonstrating its ability to learn.
The biggest shock of all (for me) was seeing that huge Grizzly behind the man relaxing on the ground, and that's some confidence in that the man feels 100% safe!
This just shows you how intelligent they are based on their actions and mannerisms. They are wide awake mentally and cognitively. A terrifying animal worth every bit of fear it puts in us humans.
repeatedly getting shocked isn't a sign of intelligence, it's a sign for lack of survival skills. if the electric shock was strong enough it could e killed the bear
@@homerdadon6363 bears do not know how to make fire, or have even learned of the concept of electricity. The fact it was able to recognize something was wrong and tried to get around it was in a way, smart.
Just more undeniable proof that bears are just as intelligent as anything. You can see he was absolutely going to have that deer no matter what it took to solve the problem. It's amazing how he went right for the battery after getting lifted enough times.
@@urena250 I call it ability to reason. We as humans don't give enough credit ... we are a very narcissistic species. Thinking we are somehow outside the box of evolution and nature. 😜
That's a good looking bear , looks very healthy and smart, I also respect all wild animals, because I think about the fact that they survive out there , whether it's hot , cold , raining, bugs, just bad environment , but they they survive.
i pretty much cannot talk to people who are dumb. just is not mentally stimulating. if i want a mind numbing experience then i watch TV (and it rarely happens) but when i want real mental growth and learning with a bit of social fun i talk to my friends. Through them i have taught and learned many things and we all have a number of fairly useful skills.
Fascinating video. After being shocked a couple times, he starts messing with the situation and disconnects the battery. Then he uses his paws instead of his mouth to test the deer because he knows it won't be as bad if his foot gets zapped rather than his lips. At first, I thought this was a mean thing to do to a bear, but now I am just in awe that he figured it out.
What is crazy, is after the bear figures out the battery and disconnects the juice, he is still testing the carcass as if it was still energized. Comically, his behavior was that of a human in a bear costume. I kept waiting, for some guy to take off the bear costume. These bears are super smart!!
It's easy to forget, while it's pawing at the swinging corpse, that that bear wears an *actual ton*. As soon as it puts weight on the trap the whole log contraption snaps
It’s crazy how this bear at around 2:15 and forward becomes to rational, and is now putting his hunger aside and is just genuinely curious about what is that is going on. He stands up and looks around and lightly pushes the corpse with his hand.
Shit... You should see the video of three huge black bear that came trotting right into my kitchen and started eating dog food. My poodle barking didn't impress it at all.lol The rooster clawed its nuts and it ran off 10 minutes later. We didn't come outta the bedroom till I saw it walking up the road from the window..
Personification and anthropomorphizing… the bear is expecting the shock. After two electric shocks that got its attention the third time something changed and it’s being cautious. Once it’s convinced it’s not going to get another shock it tears the deer down. It doesn’t know what electricity is or that it’s been shocked just that biting that deer previously resulted in an unpleasant physical sensation. Predators are observant and have a good memory, their instincts are to become cautious when something doesn’t react the way the bear expects
They're essentially just absolutely massive wild dogs who leave their pack at a certain age to hunt alone. They're very intelligent, most mammals are. Even in the ocean mammals are far smarter than anything else there (that we know of...)
Dude went home, watched a few episodes of *home improvement* , watched Tim speak to the wise neighbor, then came back knowing that Tim put these Christmas lights together. 1 Tim + 1 deer ÷ by 1 wire = Dinner! 😉☺
SidtheKid no frequentie in DC. just leaned on the battery to take a look a little higher up and moved it. the end. i wish he had done it on purpose: i love that. bears are known to open (car) doors. that's something i don't love so much. 😎
@@darkswami - Exactly. Knocking over the battery was not intentional as to disconnect the electricity. The fact that so many people sincerely believe that the bear figured out that the pain it was experiencing had anything to do with that object (battery), surely is incredibly.
The Ego I have seen video of crows do amazing things, like looking at a small gate and figuring out they have to pull a rope to lift it, from the first try. Not bears though.
@@darkswami my ferret did the same, but that is in no way the same situation. My ferret, a bear, a crow, or any other a animal would never make the mental connection that the pain they are experiencing is connected to anything but only from carcass itself.
🤣😂🤣😂😂😂😂 yooooooo, the whole standing behind the tree touching at it, I was floored, this is amazing. I always thought those of you who go anywhere near these animals that can easily kill us was nuts and begging to die but if not for you we wouldn't know a damn thing about them. THIS was absolutely amazing. My hats off to you and thank you brave hearts.
+Bunk Man the bear did NOT pull the plug with intent... Daft people really do scare me... "herp derp dat bear dare be is smartserer then me is! hur hur hur!" STFU and go back to your village of idiots please.
Christopher Bartnik Thank you Chris for noticing the troll power :) Hey Bunk Man, I would say "so you're into necrophilia eh?" but my mother was cremated... So your blowing dust...o.0 KINDA sick brah...
***** You mad bro? No anger here only fear. Fear of stupidity. The only angry man was bunk man. Only angry because he got trolled :) I hope you have a great day :)
Actually felt happy for the bear after seeing it experience an electric shock probably for the first time.. knowing this is painful food.. but when it disconnected the power source was glad he tore the thing off and got his prize.. talk about staying on the course.. this really does say a lot in more than one way.. persistence does pay off!
bears manage to somehow simultaneously be some of the most imposing and intimidating (and at the same time GOOFIEST) creatures in the animal kingdom....
Lesson learnt ....get rid of box thingy first rip out wire thingy ....was a challenge and kinda fun ...now just more boring shit along with tearing off car doors and ripping open ice chests ...."is THAT all you people got? Seriously? DAMN I thought you all were supposed to be Apex smart?....whatever dudes....thanks again for the meat"
Hilarious and amazing at 2:39 mark to see him do a Shaquille O'Neal (1990's backboard shatter) on the entire support stand after he's sure the shock is gone! 🤣
The way that bear figured out where the electricity is coming from blew my mind, I've been saying that all animals are a lot smarter than we give them credit for for years, and with everybody videotaping everything all the time there's so much evidence to prove and back up what I have to say. Just because they can't speak language like we do or make technology because they don't have the physical anatomy to do that doesn't mean they aren't intelligent.
I've read that bear are much smarter than dogs and from of the dogs I've had most have amazed me at times with just how smart & clever they are until they try eating the couch ! Dumb bad dog !
You know... good for that bear! He stuck to it, and actually figured it out. Not exactly "figured the deer was electrified" of course, but figured that the rig and the "human gear" was maybe the problem... so rip that stuff up and see what happens. A well earned deer - good for him. :)
@@danishdutchdeadly1198 Ok. Well, I don't think there's any "clearly" about it. Maybe it was by accident, maybe it was on purpose. Difficult for either one of us to say I suppose, but I don't think it's "clearly" one way or the other. However, to me, it looks deliberate. It does not look to me like the battery just happened to accidently fall over, or that standing on it just happened to accidently knock it over. To me, it looks like he pulled it over with both front paws on purpose, just like bears do with rocks and logs. Of course, I'm not saying that he had figured out the physics of electricity (LOL) but I do think he figured he try ripping up that human-gear and see what happened.
@@danishdutchdeadly1198 I think it's fair to say that the bear accidentally stepped on and turned off the power. Had the generator been a few feet above the ground, I think it might not have "solved" the problem. I don't know. However, it was evident that there was some level of reasoning going on. It seemed to understand that something was providing power to the carcass. It tested out by trial and error by touching its surroundings and, finally, the carcass with its paws. Given that bears are not equally as intelligent as human beings, what that bear did, intentional or accidental, was still impressive.
Imagine walking alone in the woods in the middle of the night and you come across an electrified deer carcass hung on a tree with its guts cut open, and a blood red light pointed towards it.
Bear beats and then eats any octopus...any day. Octopus videos are filed under O for octopus. You're in the B section for Bears. Just trying to steer you in the right direction man.
@@Deetown691 You're dumb if you think a full grown octopus would lose to a bear. Aquatic life are able to take on creatures up to 4x their weight in the water if that creature isn't another aquatic life form. A 50 pound fish in a lake will THRASH any 200lb grown man around like a fucking doll. Giant octopus have weighed thousands of pounds. Let's just say it's 1000. It has the power to throw 4000 pounds around in the water relatively easily. If it wasn't extremely shallow water or land, that bear is food.
I don't know if it was cuz I was smoking a blunt during this but I was laughing so freaking hard throughout this whole video this is one of the greatest videos on RU-vid
+WildAndLiving smarter than the average bear is from yogi the bear a cartoon... he says its everytime he tries to get food.. clearly you never seen the show when you were a kid ..
I know this is like impressive and he's afraid of getting shocked and what not, but I find it hilarious to see a huge Grizzly being so tentative and timid just kind of poking at it and then running away lol
It did not. That was luck. He was taking his frustration out on something unfamiliar.. That is shown by him thinking it was still live even tho he had destroyed the power supply.
@@vanceogden2482 Didn't know you was the bear! :0 Because bears are one of the smartest animals, it knew what it was doing. Even tapping it while standing up to determine what to do. Humans aren't the only "smart" ones.
the bear now knows the source of the shock, so will attack and disable the battery ... wearing one is not a good idea ... I'd be less than "eager" if I were a Michael
