As an emo kid coming all the way from AttackAttack!, this is incredibly powerful. Not only for Caleb's journey, but for all of us who have followed him, have felt the same way, suffered our own or similar struggles and often lost the battle trying to love ourselves. All the emo kids who made it this far will get shivers. I, for one, never thought I'd make it past high school. Here I am. 29 and listening to this absolute banger, free of self harm or attempted self unaliving for 4 years now. This song represents the overcome of that battle, and I'll belt this until I die a glorious death.

Y'all, I think you have no idea how much of an impract this song will have on people. I am so grateful for this song. I've been on this fight with myself trying to figure out self-love and self-worth and fighting with my body dysmorphia. This song helps. I worked out to it this morning and instead of using work out as a punishment or a form of self-hate, I think I finally understand joyful movement and moving myself just because my body deserves it. He has ALWAYS written anthems for us - for me specifically, like in the exact goddamn time I needed them 😅 He knows music is 🤷‍♀️ idk just downright fuckin cathartic (and often much more readily available for a lot of us loner types/just in general considering health-care and access to therapy or money in general), one Shomo concert speech will confirm just how clearly he has lived it himself. With his raw uncut vulnerable parts like fuuuccckk he just makes me feel so seen/felt/heard/understood in a way I have never felt just by pushing play on my phone 😭

So, this last year (pretty much since Riptide) I have been going through personal growth... Getting therapy, moving past my trauma, coming off my antidepressants, learning who I am and being okay with it. This year I have begun to, for the first time ever, be happy and proud to be me! Beartooth have always been my go to mental health band, Caleb manages to accurately depict the struggle in a beautiful and creative way! I find it so awesome that as my journey of positivity started Beartooth changed their content... A year later and yes I agree "I think I might love myself" Thank you Caleb for being who you are and being so open with your struggles and healing! Its helped me and countless others through!!

So this new album is called “The Surface”. I thought about it a bit, and had an epiphany. Disgusting Aggressive Disease Below The Surface Line them all up, and you have a perfect description of depression, addiction, anxiety, and many other mental health disorders. With all the past singles I've had to sit with them for a bit, give them like five or six listens of each one, and I've come out loving them all. This is no different! The positive energy and vibe of this song is unmatched! The mix of positivity, energy, a little pop and electronic, and face melting metal is perfectly balanced! The message is incredible and im so happy for Caleb for making it this far! This gives me so much hope for myself finding that self love and pure happiness, and for all those struggling as well. I am gonna leave this here and if someone see this cool if not it is for me. Somehow Caleb your songs get released at the perfect time, especially this song when I am literally experiencing what this song is saying at this exact moment in my life. I have had a life, enough to have a whole book series wrote about it, from traumatic childhood to even war. I never gave up though and I can say I am happy where I am now, and this some song says exactly how I feel. When I heard this song, I chose not to dwell in the negativity flooding my mind. I put on running shoes, set this song on repeat, and ran while smiling and happy-crying for about 15 straight minutes. Thank you for the message of overcoming.

Shoot. This song hits-it was actually uncomfortable to listen to it the first time around, because of the self hate I still struggle with. Having cerebral palsy and being and endurance athlete for 10+ years really did a number on my body image an confidence. Now a husband and a father, I’ve realized that if you don’t learn to love yourself, you’re not going to love those around you. I love the courage that Shomo expresses in this video-you gotta be brave just to accept how God made you, let alone love the way He made you. Also, such a fan of the positive dialogue this is promoting in the comments. Keep it coming y’all!

Beartooth is and has been metal, even if this and Sunshine! don't explicitly count by definition...so we'll have to see what all of The Surface looks like. I know they have been metal, I've been following them for a long time, it's just that this gives me some poppy/ punk vibes from the structure/ instrumentals etc overall ( nothing wrong with that). Caleb is a nice dude. Met him shortly before their Dallas stop in June. My wife was awe struck and forgot to tell him she has his lyrics on her arm. Beartooth saved both of our lives with their music. And I truly mean that. Their music is my go to every time I’m not doing well mentally. This song has inspired me to be truly happy with who I am.

As someone in recovery now after being an IV junkie since I was 17 (I’m 30 now), this is one side of the feeling of recovery. If you want to see the other side of what it feels like, check out ‘Look the Other Way’ on this album. It kind of gives you both angles. There’s days where you feel better. You feel like you’re in a great place. Then there’s days where you’re feeling embarrassed about how weak you were for so long. The amount of pain you caused not just your family, friends but yourself as well. How embarrassing it is and how you just don’t want people to know and there’s two lines for me that hit it home for me. Obviously the line: “I'm picking up the pieces, please just look the other way”. For me it hits home because you just want to only let people see the part where you’re “fixed” but that won’t happen. You’ll always have to fight to be okay. But for me the part that hits the hardest is the lines: “'Cause baby, I'm afraid I'm slowly pushing you away By showing you the deepest, darkest, weakest part of me”. Especially the WEAKEST part of me. I’m always afraid that my family or my fiancé will leave. People always tell us junkies that they want to be able to try and help, but it takes a lot for us to show you just how weak we are that we let a drug or multiple drugs take over our lives so completely that we would’ve been perfectly fine going out as long as it was in our bloodstream when we did. Long post, but I just want people to see both sides of recovery in mine and a few others’ eyes.

But a lot of people hear the uplifting side of when people are getting sober, dealing with mental health, etc. However, they don’t always hear about those other days where you’re mentally fucked, picturing sending a bullet through your head because you don’t think you can do it anymore.
