HI I just re-watched your video. I'm actually trying to decide whether to switch completely from RSM to BA. I've been doing RSM for 4yrs now and I'm burnt out from how parent intensive it is and with the games it can take over an hour to do a lesson. I am just dreading the games these days. I see you made this video 3yr ago. Are you still doing both RSM and BA? How much math does your older one end up doing with doing both RSM and BA? Thank you!
We love Beast Academy, especially the book/online combo. We also use it with another math curriculum because I like the way they get to learn in different ways. We used right start for years, but switched to The Good & The Beautiful 1.5 years ago. Thanks for such a thorough review!!!!
We do Right Start Math, my older one just finished Level D, she's going into 4th grade. I have also younger twins almost done w Level A who cant fully read yet. Just wondering how much time does your end up spend doing math everyday? Right Start Math lessons usually take me about 45min to go through a lesson. I have to teach each separately b/c even the twins learn at different pace. So that's about 2.25hrs of math I have to teach. With 3 kids to teach I'm just wondering how feasible is it to add this? I would love it if it is truly independent for by older one which would give me a chance to teach the younger ones. Thanks so much for this video. I know the program is challenging which is why I want to try to incorporate it. Also do you find that doing a level below, the material is a repeat of some stuff your daughter learned in the prior year?
Wow, this was a great review on Beast Academy...love the combination method as I think working online has a lot of benefits as you mentioned. I’m sure this will be very helpful to homeschooling parents that may be exploring different options for math. Great job🤗
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We are currently using right start and want to supplement in the future to mix things up. Beast academy looks like a great option.
One thing too: whenever we start a new work book, I rip out all the hints and answers (the sheets are perforated) and keep them separately with my teacher guides, which makes it easier to grade and also to give the hint if they need it. Our books have held up well especially after I started doing that so we didn’t need to flip back and forth all the time
We just started online BA after doing the workbooks and really feel like we are headed towards doing online only with workbook as needed as her main math is Saxon 6/5.
Is there review and tests? I watched a review of Beast Academy, and the person said a con of the program was there was no tests to determine if your child was retaining the information. She was only talking about the book version though.
There are tests after each chapter. Beast academy also tracks all your child’s progress and emails you weekly with everything. They even tell you how many attempts were made on any question. They have little charts that show everything. It record keeps for you.
For what is worth, the practice book is meant to be torn apart- the pages are pre-cut, that's why is not very sturdy. I tear the practice pages out and I keep only the hints and answers in the back.
I use anything free someone gives me because if it is from another curriculum company it DOES expose my child to other ways the information is presented.
Remember: after 5th grade, they're ready for prealgebra. So a child who's doing BA at one level below math will start AoPS' very rigorous prealgebra in 7th grade.
