I miss the boys so bad it hurts my heart to the core. Rip Adam. Im 44 years old and grew up on the boys. Saw them when I was young in Brooklyn in a little hole in the wall venue. Got to rub elbows with all 3. I was also playing music then and contributed some samples and ideas to the punk stuff and so on. Haven’t spoke to any of them since Lalapalooza in the mid 90’s. I was playing backup guitar for P-Funk at the time. That was the last time I saw them all together in one place in person. I love and miss that era with all my heart. And I miss the boys every day. As a New Yorker I was lucky enough to have seen the three B Boys walking around from time to time when I was young. The best one was on 7th Ave by the Library Church when I was pushing a supermarket cart full of film equipment with a girl I went to class with. These two older guys behind us on bikes were loudly talking about some other guy getting some sort of sneaker. When we hit the light we were side by side and boom one of the guys is Horowitz. I stared slightly and he said to me “what’cha filmin’”? I responded it was a school project and he responded that he hoped it came out cool. Next time I saw him he was w the other B Boys filming a music video on the Houston playground, circa 2003ish.

One night in 1987 or 1988 I was outside CBGB's waiting to get in to a show (local ska bands - I think Second Step, Urban Blight, maybe the Toasters). Back then Ad Rock was dating Molly Ringwald. They come walking up to the venue with Mike D. Dr. Know from the Bad Brains was there and said something I could not make out, but obviously drawing attention to Ad Rock and Molly. The crowd of people out there start hollering and checking them out. Molly looks annoyed and maybe scared. They turn around and leave.

@@innaminute523 i got an adrock story too. I was working at tekserve and dating a girl named ashley who loved the beasties more than anyone i've ever met (even since). I got the chance to fix ad rocks issues, and when he came to pick it up, i called her over to the store. I told ad rock she was not a normal fan, and i would be forever grateful if he would just say hi to her on the way out, but he went out of his way to bend down and talk to her, (she went red and couldn't speak) and basically just be really nice to her. What a fucking guy. She couldn't stop crying happy but mad that she couldn't talk tears. Was a good day.

@monokhem Wrong. Licensed To Ill is classic; Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, and Ill Communication are damn near flawless; Hello Nasty is fantastic, if a bit bloated; To The 5 Boroughs is the weakest, but there's still some essential cuts; Mix-Up is a great kick-back record; and Hot Sauce Committee showed they were pushing their sound in interesting directions to the very end.
@alt8699
@alt8699 5 лет назад
It's good to take time between records. However, you have to be multitalented to do so and remain an interesting feature for the public eye. Beastie Boys did this for a ridiculously great, extended spell. Those who are slating their output really need to listen up a bit more - Licensed to Ill was a shit LP. However, the output following it was fucking incredible. Hello Nasty was their last great release and should be noted as such but hey, that space between was nigh-on flawless.

We need to see more of them. These two have too much creativity, good taste and talent to sit on the sidelines. I know Yauch is gone, but 2 Beasties have so much to offer and need to collab again. Even if it isn't under the name "Beastie Boys"... they need to start making music again. It's so sorely needed. Current music is only getting worse and worse by the day. We need these guys back. You can't tell me that these two don't have more amazing music in them. We need it.

@ncorp2668
@ncorp2668 5 лет назад
@@Angie-PantsTheir right to lead chill private lives has nothing to do with the point I was making. What I'm saying is, I believe these two have much more music in them. They stopped because of MCA's death, but their creativity and talent would have continued to producing more music otherwise, so they should strongly consider making a different collaboration among themselves or with other artists. You don't have to be in the public eye to create music. Kathleen Hanna creates music at her home and rarely does anything public. Adrock and Mike D should consider doing that too. I know these two have much more music in them.

Very True. They didn’t typically write their own raps. They are great at rapping one of the other boys words. They all were good musicians too. On Check your Head they played the instruments and they played well. The last few years of them touring they did a instrumental set in the middle of the show. Mostly instrumental funk jams. Great stuff. The Mix Up and The In Sounds From Way Out. Two of their funk albums that totally kick ass. Great stuff. So I gotta agree that they should do some producing or make a funk album. Or EP. Anything. I would love to hear what they can put together with modern technology. Moogs, Drum machines, samples. The album Paul’s Boutique has the most samples of all time

I helped them out and gave them advice on what to do and chatted with them. Not much, from what I remember of the conversation it was about differences like cars driving on the other side of the road etc.They were more interested in trying to drop in on the ramp so it was mostly telling them to lean and push forward and dont lean back and you can do it type encouragement. This was in the early 90's, I remember I had finished school and was working so somewhere between 1990-93 it would have been and to me at the time they were just 3 guys my age from America with dyed hair, which was cool in itself back then. I remember opening the paper the next day and seeing the dyed hair and thinking thats the guys at the ramp last night, the caption in the paper read "The Beastie Boys have arrive in Australia". I was like no way! I had no idea.

Beastie Boys are the music of my youth and responsible for opening me up to the world of hip hop. They’re an American treasure! It’s been 35 years since lll Communications and I’m still listening and learning lyrics (the correct ones). I remember getting Paul’s Boutique and Check Your Head at the beginning of each Summer and playing it in my car’s tapedeck so much that I memorized all the lyrics to those albums and the tape warping due to the heat. What blew my mind was how other celebrities would fish about how smart their lyrics were. While they didn’t start hip hop they certainly were integral in making it the top musical genre of the time due to their wide appear to all groups. MCAs death was tragic and affected me profoundly. I imagine it was like that for many when Elvis and Lennon died. I instantly knew the band was finished and that was like a second death. RIP Adam Yauch

This is now my 2nd favorite Jimmy Fallon interview right after Nichole Kidman talking about thinking she wanted to date Jimmy for a brief time period after her split with Tom Cruise (i guess i can see the resemblance) until she saw him playing video games.. comedy gold!
