I've never been a fan of the original Taig lathe tailstock. While it does get the job done, it isn't ergonomic in the slightest, it's ugly, and it can barely reach over the tool carriage. So I made a better one!
Even though this tailstock is fairly massive, 95% of my lathe work is on really really tiny parts, so I don't need to conserve space. This also allows it to reach really far, so I basically never have to move it on the bed. And since it couldn't reach over the tool carriage, I would have to take the tailstock off, pull the tool carriage off, put the tailstock back on, drill my hole, and do the same process in reverse. That's a pain!! So this works waaaaay better for me.

You turned that Taig in to a beast. Any idea on how to get a longer bed? Or would it be easy to use two beds together?

If I recall correctly, I've seen someone put two beds together and just swapped out the leadscrew with a longer one. It would be nice to have even just 3" more on the standard bed for sure.

I wonder why with all that expensive machinery in your workshop and I primarily refer to your large milling machine you didn't consider adding to your arsenal a simple one or another type metal cutting saw?

Yeah, I would like a little band saw at some point for sure

Hmmm, I'm in the idea stage for a new tailstock for my Taig. I'm not going to make a big version of the stock one for sure! The big deficiency of the stock lathe is you can't use a decent live center like a Skoda. I think making a tailstock with a MT2 quill is worthwhile. Just how much trouble do I want to go to.

Do it. Anything is better than the stock one. I kept the manual/lever feed because I'm mostly drilling very small holes and like to feel the forces, but yeah whatever works for your needs.

For drilling sure - more reach, leverage, and feel. My problem is there is no way to use a good quality live center. I think my only practical solution is make a tailstock just for that purpose. So I'll have to switch between the two tailstocks. @@somanyhobbies

Yeah, I have yet to figure out a decent live center solution also@@randydewees7338

I'm going to use a MT2 "bushing". It's 25mm diameter cylinder with the MT2 socket. About $12 on Amz. It will be in a split block with a rudimentary screw at the back to push/load it. This block will have a dovetail to engage the stock Taig tailstock base - I bought a spare base from Taig ($11) so I can have the lateral setting right for both tailstocks. There are MT1 25mm bushings available too. I happen to have a lot of MT2 tooling. The split block hole for the bushing (quill) can be bored on a mill well enough, but I'm going to experiment with an adjustable reamer and an adjustable lap to try to get a perfect fit, for fun. Of course, there are lots of little details and different ways to do this. Finding that bushing product saved me a lot of work. @@somanyhobbies

I have never seen those bushings before, that's an awesome find! I'll have to keep those in mind for the future. @@randydewees7338

top half looks good. but the bottom looks a bit "how you going" over leverage on top. all and all its a top job well done

I believe you drilled a hole when I see a hole...I don't need to see you drill the hole...Same with the sawing....I did not learn anything from your video...And it was just a waste of my time....WTF
