Beat-chopping with OP-1 Field

Demonstration on how to chop & flip a breakbeat using a Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field. I've used this technique since the 90s on a variety of samplers, but I enjoy the OP-1's easy workflow.
Note: contrary to what I imply in the video, the USER directory on the OP-1 comes empty. The breakbeat samples you see listed on my OP-1F were loaded there using the MTP disk utility.

Best OP1 sampling tutorial! The bigger channels don't show this. Thnx a lot!

Good tutorial. Thank you. The randomize and reverse options on the sampler offered by tweaking shift + red knob delivers nice and surprising results!

The amount of hidden techniques in this video is impressive. Never knew you could save effect parameters to the memory buttons. Always thought those were strictly for the EQ only. Need to re-watch to really understand what the sampling technique here is all about. I need to figure out how to make fresher, funkier drum tracks for my songs.

3:47 G stands for gate btw… I’m hoping eventually we’d be able to make changes to all keys rather than one by one. Awesome video so far though bro. I never really use resampling and having thought about recording my samples in that way with a specific length in mind to help with the chopping!

I got a question I can’t seem to find the answer to: does volume drop when you record into tape ? When I record drum sequences ( within the op1 field ) the “tape” recording of it is quieter . So doing this live would be a turn off. Is that normal ?

You can adjust the input volume when recording to tape, but it's better to leave it as is. Once you have audio on all 4 tracks, it's too easy to clip the master output! Leave things at -10 or -12db because you can always boost levels if needed, or add "drive" in mastering.

As a recent OP-1 Field purchaser I really appreciated this video E Prado. I've only had mine for a few days but I made a track based on what I learned from this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XVvOe2FrrKg.html so massive thanks for that. I wondered though how long it took you to get so tight and proficient with it? and - as this video is 7 months old - whether there's ever come a point where you found it limited and got a bit bored of it? Thanks

In this video you already have a sample loop in the synth engine sample folder, which you say is where you store them but that also so that you can add fx-but can’t you technically do that after you have the sample imputed into the drum sampler, after endless, but before recording to tape ie add nitro last in drum engine after dropping) Is there an advantage to adding fx first in the synth engine? (I already have a lot of loops in my drum sampler, and could of course sample them to the synth, but that seems redundant if you can put fx on before tape in the drum machine after imputing sequence in endless)

Still don’t understand how to create a sample. When in synth mode I can select the menu for “sample”, but these are factory presets. I can chose “line in” but can’t arm any recording.
