NO The Beat Farmers don't need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Lame. They were *real* rock and roll and don't need that association. Damn, these boys tore up a joint. I'm lucky to have seen them several times over the years. RIP Buddy and Country Dick.
I used to listen to this band in the day, but haven't thought of them for at least a decade. Suddenly, I woke up this morning and the name "The Beat Farmers" popped into my head for some reason. It's good to have a listen to them again!
Joey Harris on lead vocals (and of course, guitar) for both of these songs, Jerry Raney on harmonica, backing vocals and lead guitar, Rollie Love on bass, and the incomparable Country Dick Montana on drums. Paul Kamanski, former bandmate of Country Dick's in the Country Dick and Snuggle Bunnies, wrote "Hollywood Hills" and Joey Harris wrote "What I Mean To Say".

I was in the green room watching the band record the show. It was filmed in Johnny Carson's studio on the weekends, I was able to sit in Johnny's chair which was stored backstage. Good times.
Watching from Bangkok. I remember all the great Street Scene, Spirit, Casbah, Belly Up shows in San Diego. Plus the Bacchanal shows were always a party. Shared a few drinks with Country Dick along the way. He would have fit in great in Thailand. Thanks for posting
I always thought it would be great if Jerry played longer solos. Personally..I never saw him drunk or out of his mind ever. He was always a good guy who only got testy about some other musicians is all. But he was a true musician all the way. Glad he had some great times. Bravo
I got to speak with Jerry several times. He was a professional. He was there to play. He also drove the van a lot while Dick, Joey, and Rollenrecovered for their shenanigans.
i love all of these guys, but my favorite is joey harris. country dick montana has a unique drumming style that takes him to the moon. damn it. i love these guys. 🌪👻
"It's Fritz" was on late Friday nights for a short period in the mid-1980's. The host, a cool dude (had Sam Kinison on, Beat Farmers, etc.) Fritz Coleman was then and is now a weatherdude on one of the networks here in LA.
