Actually this clip is so 90's! Those disc drives weren't available in the 80's. In the 80's we used the much larger true Floppy discs.

I had some rough years there that we don't have to get into. Yeah, watching a program do something in realtime tends to look very overwhelming. I know when I was programming a game engine 20 years ago, if I turned on ALL the debug messages you'd get like 500 messages a second. Of course, I didn't bother having a realtime monitor for it, since I was mostly trying to track down why crashes happened, so it ended up in a log file... Originally that log file was set to append the new run of a program after it's previous runs, but that got out of hand so quickly I had to change it. XD Dealing with a 700 megabyte log file is no fun at all, even now, much less 20 years ago. XD

I used to work in the main control and data processing center for 4 major trading banks. Started back in 1988. Monitoring the processing of the cpus was done with 4 screens like that. Pertinent commands or messages were highlighted and would not scroll off the screen until acknowledged or an action for a drive or process was taken. Pretty soon you were able to follow what was going on Matrix style. Big picture resolved itself.

I used to have that scanner. I remember those sounds fondly. HP 4C. SCSI connected scanner that cost $1100 new back in the mid 90's. Depending on a lot of factors in the settings you picked, the stepper motors made all kinds of different sounds as they hit different speeds and directions. They just manually control those stepper motors. And I thought Fur Elise Scanner was awesome. This is definitely the next level.
