I was already a Belew fan when I heard Vai for the first time in '83. I remember thinking "wow - wouldn't it be too cool to hear Vai & Belew do something together?" Well - it took 41 years, but that wish came true, and it's maybe even better than I thought it could be!
This was such an amazing show. Adrian picked the perfect combination with Steve and Danny. I love how they were true to the original songs but added so much power and soul. Crazy good band. Go see this if you can.
I was initially skeptical about Vai's inclusion in the tour based solely on my own ignorance of his prodigious talent. I understood he was a virtuoso but I associated him primarily with Dave Roth and Whitesnake. Boy was I wrong. He's bringing something incredibly exciting and vital to this music I never expected. His presence on this tour not only has made me a fan of his, but it's opened up a real interest in his entire catalog. I really love everything and everyone involved in this tour, but Vai is turning out to be a revelation.
I was excited to see how Vai would approach this song - it’s really quite incredible how he plays these parts, it’s like a parallel universe has opened up - they’re different, but fit perfectly.
I don't remember what song it was but Vai hit a pinch harmonic about 2/3 the way through that resonated through some filters and shook the whole building it was wild
It's called a 'tongue drum' or 'slit drum'.....when they toured in '84- Bruford would walk around with the slit-drum miced up...Carey is using electric pads replicating the sounds
sorry but no ... I don´t like the Steve Vai style ... turns the masterpiece into a very different (and dissapointing to me) arrangment ... and the way he looks is somewhat disrespectful for King Crimson
