Beating Minecraft's Hardest Modpack With Nothing // Episode 16 - It's Called UraniYUM For A Reason

In this sixteenth episode of the series, I discover the tongue tingling power of spicy metal salsa, dip my eyes in bubblegum flavored bathwater so that I can shoot lasers out of them, construct two extremely expensive metal boxes, and am gifted the solution of a problem I didn't know I had - namely, the continuing presence of common sense, game balance, and the ability to differentiate sounds in the 400-800 Hz. audio range.
GT - New Horizons is an intricately designed and custom-coded kitchen-sink style modpack built on the 1.7.10 version of Minecraft. It integrates hundreds of Minecraft's flagship mods into a Gregtech framework - completely overhauling the mods' traditional progression in the process, and radically rebalances any of the technologies those mods may offer.
Because doing things the normal way is 'too easy', I am following a ruleset based off of the (in)famous Garden Of Grind ruleset that places me in a completely empty superflat dimension. Every single resource I need, including blocks to stand on, has to be created out of nothing by finding clever workarounds and weird mechanics. Unlike in Garden Of Grind, I am not restricted to only my starting dimension - it's just that every other dimension starts out just as empty as my first one.
This pack is available on both the Curseforge and Technic launchers. You can also get the pack directly from the development GitHub.

Overchanting mods have gotten trickier to circumvent over the years, but the basic premise of the loop is wholly available

Hey, pro tip, if this modpack has a lot of stuff with NBT data, DO NOT STORE IT IN YOUR APPLIED ENERGISTICS SYSTEM!! Too much NBT in one block corrupts the chunk permanently, I've accidentally corrupted chunks when I routed enchanted items into an AE system with a lot of storage in one block.
@AcousticPeepo
@AcousticPeepo 3 месяца назад
That not really a problem when using "vanilla" AE drives, but it's a serious concern if you're using an addon that mimic refined storage drives, while it's not a problem it can and will cause slowdowns when opening your terminal, a good rule it to just don't put unstackable items in your system at all. Tbh in general there is not a lot a mods that add a ton of nbt data to items, I can think of two of the top of my head that are seriously bad for digital storage, Apotheosis and Vault hunters

Just got to the bit where you said "They missed a very important question: how does the Overenchanter know when to _stop_ overenchanting?" At this point I said "Oh, no" out loud. Having not seen the rest of the video, here's what I assume is happening: you can overenchant something to a +1 level, and then remove it via Disenchanter onto a book. Then, you Mana-Enchant an item with it... and then stick it right back into the Overenchanter, resulting in another +1 level to the enchantment. _And then you do it again._ This would allow for a hypothetically infinite level of enchantments. Time to continue the video and see if I was right. EDIT: I was. Good to know that once the question is asked I can successfully detect the cheese.

Heh. That rant about not knowing how to automate a stone furnace was somewhat amusing. It really is quite difficult to figure out mechanics sometimes, especially if you’re getting spoiled by mods that basically let you do whatever you want and act “normally” (playing nice with transport systems, etc). Not saying that this isn’t how it should be, just that it makes the “bad actors” stick out more. Also, I’m SO glad that Thermal-series item/fluiducts aren’t the norm anymore. Played Compact Claustrophobia, and it honestly might have just been easier to use Refined Storage for all my automation needs. It wasn’t necessarily that difficult to automate with itemducts, but placing down the Servos felt a good bit jankier than messing around with EnderIO conduits, and Retrievers didn’t seem to work fully reliably. Probably just a skill issue on my part, but eh.
@Hexagonaldonut
@Hexagonaldonut 3 месяца назад
Yeah, I'm personally of the opinion that the ducts are at least better than, like, Pipez or Refined Pipes (which I consider to be the absolute bare minimum and nothing more), but I'd be a liar if I said they were ever my first choice. Ender IO has always just done that job so much better, and as of late I've felt like an idiot about the time where I stopped using Ender IO because I got unimaginably sick of its core tech loop. Tragically, though Ender IO _has_ come back, the modern version doesn't have full conduit functionality yet.

NO WAY THE MANA ENCHANTER WORKS? Was looking at ways to transfer high enchantment levels on items, looking at anvils the same way you did. I remember mana enchanters not working when I played Infinity Evolved Expert Skyblock so I didn't even bother to test it in GTNH, but turns out I was wrong. I have 0 progress in botania in my world (and said world hasn't been touched for a while), but it's a good thing to know. And yes, after looking briefly at how the overenchanter works, I also figured out that it just adds some NBT data to the enchanted item to check whether they can be overenchanted or not, resulting in my also figuring out what you did with moving enchants onto different items. I just wasn't able to correctly use the enchanted books. The pack makers did account for overenchanting in some way. The enchanting shenaniganry is neat, unfortunately while the devs didn't care to stop people from using it they did take steps to stop people from *abusing* it in any real practical fashion (at least that I've found). There's a multitude of situations where things that can use enchanted tools are conspicuously hard limited to Looting/Fortune IV if not III (crop Spades being a good example of the latter, I've found in testing), and diamond spikes specifically don't work with Botania's Mana enchanter, meaning it is limited to anvils, which means they're not getting anything too silly. The most practical use for this trick I've found was getting a super high Fortune enchanted Terra Shatterer to mine entire veins and get tons of goodies from small ores, unfortunately Botania is so poorly balanced in GTNH that by the time you can get Terrasteel you can get multiblock miners to do mining for you, and automated mining > manual mining any day of any Venusian week. I should also point out that vanilla MC Unbreaking enchant works differently from TiC's unbreaking trait - a vanilla Unbreaking X tool is sadly not indestructible, and IIRC won't be until Unbreaking CI or something along those lines. Spoiler: That is less than practical. If there is some clever use for this tech I've never thought of I'd love to hear about it, but as far as I've managed to figure out it's sadly impractical.

I remember getting so into it as a kid that I learned Lua to automate my IC2 reactor's refueling in that old version of the mod lol, with that optimal setup that used 7 stacks of ice to cool it with the rest of the reactor being full of uranium. I had the computer programmed to detect when the cells were depleted and then pipe the exact configuration of cells and ice back in. Plus some safety features, of course 😅. That and my iron golem factory/teleporter were some of my proudest moments in it. That can lead to a kind of mental health death spiral. I know you probably don’t need someone to tell you this. But I thought I’d put it out there

Thanks to the Botania enchanting mention I dug around in the modpack I'm playing and found with the disenchanter from Cyclic I can get enchatments stripped off of items and onto books, one enchant at a time at full level of the enchantment on the item was, and with Botania enchanting to enchant an item with out consuming that book and stripping that enchant in the disenchanter again I can dupe enchanment books, further combined with enchanted items I'm getting from Wandering Trader (I don't know what mod is causing the trades, sorry) that have Sharpness X, Protection X, Unbreaking X, Efficiency X, Looting X, Smite X, Scavenger V, and some other really overleveled ones (though usually only one overleveled enchantment per item) are now all going on all the gear I can put it on. Pretty fun stuff. (Around 27:30 for the start of the over leveling enchantments) I don't know if my modpack has an overleveled enchanter, but just moving the X level enchants from found items is more than enough of a huge find.

33:28 that equation doesn't have any exponential terms in it... maybe I'm just too out of it to get it though. 33:55 yeah that *is* quadratic growth, as expected from the equation! now you have no excuse, quadratic polynomials are so much weaker than exponential

the instant you mentioned anvils not handling high level enchants, my mind went right to the mana enchanter lol. Did the exact same thing in stoneblock 3, where there's a sharpness 255 sword you can disenchant. Needed a ton of kekimurus to get it done but it finished, annnnnnnd it didn't work correctly lol.

wrt the glitch mentioned at 25:40, when this modpack is over/you want a break, a showcase of how that glitch WOULD work in a creative mode setting would be awesome! i'm only aware of its application in chunkbanning noobs and duplicating items

My question with the overenchanter is that if you re-enchant a previous tool would it still apply the enchantment? For example, say you continue that previous example of the wooden pickaxe and stone pickaxe. Enchant Wood with Fortune 3 (henceforth referred to as "F#"), disenchant, apply F3 to Stone, Overenchant Stone to F4, Disenchant Stone for F4 Book, Enchant the same Wood that had F3 with F4 instead, and now attempt to Overenchant the Wood again. Would it still accept the Overenchant, or do you need to use a totally unique tool every time? Side-note, just finished binging this series up until this episode. Heavily enjoying so far, can't wait to see how far you can get. Who knows, maybe you'll discover some cheese nobody thought of for those few unobtainable items? This modpack's been around for quite a while and people have likely tried many things so it's unlikely I have to admit, but who knows.

Chunk bans have actually been fixed lately in GTNH :) feel free to carry as many drives as you want ALSO! Since you're getting into AE you can get INFINITE essentia. Put an essentia storage bus on an essentia condenser, use an essentia export bus, profit. You also need to put a jar of the essentia next to the condenser so it can fill itself up so you can also have infinite essentia for altar recipes
