I definitely remember Doc Ock running my pockets as a kid but it's prolly because I was a dumb af kid (and still am). I do remember really struggling on the first part where you had to hit the switches, the fact that falling in the water insta kills you is so stupid and was definitely responsible for a lot of deaths.
