I was thinking when I saw that that they'd heard these questions so many times already that they'd worked out schtick to accompany the answers -- and this was only 1963!
I love how George is the distracted one, Ringo the shy one, Paul the talkative one, and John the humorous one. They have such likable and distinctive personalities. -3
@@MCO18 ..."you know they didn't even give us a chance, Christ you know it ain't easy..." that just about sums up all these crammed and rushed interviews done by clueless people asking really stupid questions! Long live The Beatles!
The interviewer was Frank Hall who later presented a very popular weekly satirical programme on Irish TV. He does look impatient and a bit confused in this clip but by all accounts he was a pleasant man. Little did he know the legends the Beatles were about to become!
I loved this inquisitive reporter who, as many, did not quite understand what was going on. He seemed really interested in the matter. As we all later knew, this was a turning point in the universal cultural history. I think he was clever enough to perceive that and was eager to understand the phenomena. Bravo Mr Hall!
Look at that little Irish angel who appears bottom center screen at 4:44 She can't be more than 10 years old and probably 4 feet tall. But she is battling to keep from getting run over because she wants to see her Beatles. What a little darling she is.
Probably, she did not care to see them at all, but her big sister wanted to go and see them. And because big sis had to watch over lil sis, she had to come along for the occasion. It is that simple.
Hysterically funny what good chums they are. It that wasn't rehersed it could not have been better staged. With so much happening to them so fast they remained down to earth fun cheeky guys. Just have to admire them.
In general I feel like being in the spotlight, or being a "celebrity" would be hard....but imagine being famous in the 60's when the cell phone wasn't even invented, especially if you were a young teenage celebrity.
If only he knew all the experimenting he'd do with Brian in the nxt few years, everyone knows, it's a, not so secret, inside secret, many ppl believe polythene pam was a song John wrote about a experience with a transwomen, which isn't surprising as it was very trendy at the time, alot of rockstars spoke out about doing it..n good for him n good for them
These guys hardly ever took a break. I can't imagine even incorporating that much airline travel, especially in the 60s. No time off to acclimate to the time changes...just plow forward
@@williamjordan5554 oh, no. Not at all. The Beatles were... not exactly what we think. It'd be too much to even get into. I just like to drop little bombs in discrete mainstream information havens
0:35 Strange that he singled out George when he said, "an Irishman here, George Harrison", when all of the Beatles beside Richard were from Irish descent. The surname "McCartney" screams Celtic ancestry. Liverpool, after all, is a predominately Irish immigrated region of England. The Beatles are more IRISH than English if you think about it. :-)
I think he was curious that one of them was met at the airport by what he thought were local residents. He was trying to make the connection to the current day that people might find interesting.
I believe he was class an Irish man more so because he used to visit Ireland during the summers to visit his mother's side of the family which he mentions in the interview. He had a lot of irish family, although by surname John, Paul and georges surnames are of Irish descent.
If only he knew all the experimenting he'd do with Brian in the nxt few years, everyone knows, it's a, not so secret, inside secret, many ppl believe polythene pam was a song John wrote about a experience with a transwomen, which isn't surprising as it was very trendy at the time, alot of rockstars spoke out about doing it..n good for him n good for them
This guy is completely perplexed. *"Give me an actual reason, ya feckin' eejit. I've never heard them, what the fuck is going on, please tell me, I'm way outta my comfort zone?"* _We love their hair, their songs and their leather jackets_ *"For Christ's sake, I know that, what else?"*
@Cozycriter Big teenage UK star of that era. She had a great voice and a great big beehive. Don't know why this one girl didn't like our boys though ! Ah, there is always one ~
I don't care if people think he looks funny, I think Ringo is so good-looking! I mean he does have a unique appearance and sometimes it is funny, but it just makes him that much more attractive lol.
i agree george, planes are wayy more fascinating then interview people. seriously, haha but i love these people to death and their so amazing! even thouhg it must have been boring for them, i glad they did them for us to watch!!! :D
Macca upends the interview at 2:00, calling Ringo a "Hymie". Even John looks shocked! The interviewer knows it's got to be edited and gets totally flustered.
what was it the reporter says at 3.14 - god bless something...makes me laugh, and shows how unusual it was for a pop group to be coming to Ireland at that time. Forget uncommon, this was unheard of, I think this was one of the first actual gigs ever in Ireland outside of show bands and Church organised stuff
+28if Life seemed so much freer back then. Free speech actually seemed to exist for the most part. Now a days, you'll be fired & blacklisted for the slightest "offense".
He said it in the interview: his mother and some friends were on the tarmac at their arrival. So it makes sense that he tries to see if they were near their spot or not.
I haven't seen this for years! It's brilliant...especially the last 2 minutes where Frank Hall interviews the girls outside the Adelphi....truly hilarious :-)
It's fascinating to watch this considering they hadn't really begun, yet it would all be over in just 6 years. Hell, in the last 6 years I haven't done jack squat.
@njriley55 All the more Ironic in that the Interviewer ( Frank Hall ) hated pop music and wasn't to fond of the Beatles either describing them later as '' a bunch of pups '' lol and you can hear his condensending tone when he interviews the teen girls, which makes you wonder why Irish Tv sent him of all people to interview them ....LOL
